Hi everyone.  Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.  I have FINALLY made up my mind as to when I want to get married (early-mid December).  The winter is perfect and we live in Buffalo, NY so we should have plenty of snow haha.

My problem: a lot of the winter themes or ideas I see involve using shades of whites, blue, reds or greens which I find very beautiful, but I would love to use purple and still keep it winter and cozy if that makes sense.  I thought a "theme" of sugar plums would be great, but obviously not taken too literal.  I need ideas though because I'm having a terrible time figuring out what I could use to decorate and convey my idea without it coming off too childish.  Any ideas?

You can use different shades of purples ranging from deep royal purples to light orchid. Any would be just lovely. Incorporate soft ivory to complement it and perhaps another hue to give it some dimension and contrast. For a warm wintery feel you can use heavier fabrics in warm colors and provied a nice contrast with things such as branches as centerpieces. It is all up to you on your day and sometimes that can be the most frustrating part! But don't fret too much and let your creative juices flow! You will come up with something lovely, I'm sure!

I agree with the PP.  You can do whatever colors you want and still have it very winter.  I like the idea of several shades of purple with ivory to soften and warm them.  Branches and other things like pinecones perhaps to bring in the winter type feel but not too wintery.  For the sugarplums, possibly use pieces of fruit in your centerpieces.  I think if you use the plums as accents here and there it won't look overdone or childish. White christmas lights are always nice accents and soft lighting that help provide a winter glow without being too christmasy.

Thank you!  I like both of your ideas.  The ivory and other whites for a nice soft snow feel with punches of purple will look cute.  We found the place we want to get married.  A beautiful lodge on Lake Placid.  So, now we just have to get the ball rolling :)  Thanks again!

I think silver might also go well with purple and give you more of a "winter" feel since then it may be easier to bring in some snowflake type things.
