Hey ladies, I'm having a hard time deciding what to serve for dinner... We're doing a family style dinner, and I like the comfort food idea. I'm kind of over the mac n' cheese idea, and prime rib

Hey ladies,

I'm having a hard time deciding what to serve for dinner... We're doing a family style dinner, and I like the comfort food idea. I'm kind of over the mac n' cheese idea, and prime rib is being served at someone else wedding very close to mine...

Any yummy comfort food ideas? Is BBQ weird?

What about carved turkey or roast beef?  You could also do lasagna or another baked pasta.

One option on our list of options from our caterer is braised short ribs...I think that feels very wintery.  We haven't finalized though yet what we will serve.

Maybe instead of a salad option you do soups, or a soup station?  Like French Onion or maybe a chowder, something warm?
We're doing stations, a pasta one and a carving one, along with soup.

I also really like the soup idea.  Nothing is better in the winter than some hot soup! This may sound really strange, but I had a carrot souffle at a venue that we considered going with, and it was fantastic.  For winter desserts, a bread pudding comes to mind, if you wanted to do something other than/in addition to cake.

We're going with Honey Baked Ham and Roast Duck because my family has ham every year for Christmas and his family has duck. But we're really going with a holiday feel, not just winter. We're doing brandied cranberry sauce, stuffing, and dumplings.

Ribs sound good, but I would avoid BBQ cause I'm messy and what with the white dress... I would fear badness. But that's just clumsy, messy me.

We had lobster bisque as one of our courses. Very warm and wintery.

We had Chateaubriand and chicken with a heavier sauce on it.
I would avoid bbq. As a guest I wouldn't want to eat it while I was all dressed up. But then again I think your food should match the type of event your having. If you're having a semi-formal event I wouldn't expect mac n cheese.

We were thinking of having soup at our MN winter wedding. Thought it
would be warm and filling enough. My question is would soup be better
as a different option or as like a soup and salad side?EXPatPumpkin - was the soup a popular choice?

LMW - Yes, it was very popular. But we had a rather extensive menu, just in case one course wasn't particularly cared for by a guest. My menu's in my bio if you want to see how it fit in to the meal.

We are serving a garlic cream pasta with wintery veggies... and then a wild rice stuffed chicken!  So far the chicken is most popular!!!
