How to do a theme without getting too tacky?

Hello Ladies!!!! I've been searching for venues and am making a lot of progress. My groom and I are looking for places where we can do a boardwalk themed wedding. We both love the beach and the ocean, and think this would be a way to incorporate it in a fun and different way. My only concern is, is that I want to make sure it still feels like a wedding, and not a carnival. Do you all have any tips on how I could incorporate this theme without going over the top and tacky? We are going to do salt water taffy for the favors, and postcards from each beach as the table names. Other then that, I don't have many ideas. Thank you for your input ladies!

Seashells in the bottom of clear vases for centerpieces?  Photo booth is very boardwalk to me.  Maybe some boardwalk type food - Fries (but jazzed up, I just had parmasean in truffle oil, amazing), macaroons during desert.  Intro to under the boardwalk?

Have you checked out the Flanders in Ocean City, NJ?
Rolling chair as a photo booth?
    Carmel popcorn as favors?
Stay tuned... I'll think of more!

Thanks for the input ladies! Unfortunately it isn't in the budget to do a whole lot of food customization. We're about to book the Running Deer golf club for our reception. We are definitely going to have a photobooth, and we're going to try to get some fudge incorporated into the dessert room as well. I'm trying to think of how to do escort cards and center pieces! I feel like escort card, center pieces, table numbers, and favors, are places to incorporate the theme while not getting too over the top.

We did get some information from Flanders Hotel in Ocean City, however their prices didn't include an open bar, and they were at the top of our pp budget to begin with! We're looking at 130-160 people, so we need a pretty big space and a low pp cost!

This is the color scheme i'm using!!! I'll mainly use the first two colors, with accents of the last three in the flowers and very few of the decorations.

Here is the link to the color scheme! http://www.pinterest.com/pin/158329743123182413/

We are going with the Platinum Buffet package, and negotiated down to $81.50 a person! We just took away the cheese/crackers/crudite table at the cocktail hour since the dinner has SO MUCH food.

If you want information on the packages w/pricing, i'd be happy to forward you their package information!

Thank you! I will. I'm thinking we're going to focus on the first two colors, the hot pink and orange, and use accents of white yellow and teal. the light pink will probably only be in the flowers. I feel like if we execute it well, it can look less themey then it would if we only had two colors! I have the time to figure it out!
