Best hotels for room blocks in/near Providence RI?

Doesn't need to be upscale. The ceremony and reception are both in Providence, RI. 

I'm about to start making calls/searching for options but thought it would help if anyone had some insider advice to go off of.

Depending on when your wedding is, one important question to ask any hotel is if they allow blocks with just one night or require two-night minimum. 

Personally, I've stayed at the Biltmore and Renaissance for meetings. Both very nice hotels, but drastically different styles.
