Bridesmaid dress for beach wedding

Getting married in the summer of 2015 on the beach in Punta Cana. I have been looking at dresses like both long and short dresses. I am letting the girls choose since they have to wear them. But should I let them know which ones I would prefer.

I think you should always give your thoughts. They are wearing them but it's your wedding. I am having my bridesmaids wear any dresses they want in the same color but I have told them I'd prefer they be short.

I know they are the ones wearing them but this day is about you so your input is super important. At the very least give color and fabric choice so they it isn't a big chaotic jumble.
