Flowers

What should $4000 get me?

I booked with a florst because of their great reputation, and told them my budget was no more than $4k. She assured me that would be plenty for what I wanted (Bridal Bouquet, 6 bridesmaids, 10 corsages, and 20 tables of some high, some low center pieces). Notice I cut all church flowers. She is now telling me I need to spend 5k. What did your flower budget get you? Specifically, can I see your centerpieces?

Re: What should $4000 get me?

  • @RachelMarie247

I am not even spending close to that amount. Granted we're not using flowers for the reception tables. We're also not using flowers for the church. We're spending about $1,000 for ours. I know that each area is different for pricing and things but I wouldn't think you need to spend more that $4000 or close to that. Before you spend any money, message me a break down of what the florist says each item is. I may be able to help you.
  • What flowers did you order, what season is your wedding, where is your wedding, and how elaborate are your centerpieces.

Did she give you a quote the first time you talked? Did you sign a contract? If she gave you a contract saying she'd do it for $4K, you need to stick to $4K.

For what it's worth - I've got 1 bridal bouquet, 6 BM bouquets, 4 corsages, 10 bouts, and 18 basic centerpieces for $1.3K, but I went with basic roses and stock flowers.

  • I need more information. What are your bouquets and centerpieces made of? It is a bit crappy and shady of your florist to come back and tell you that you need to spend an extra $1000. That doesn't make this person sound like a good florist. A good florist should be able to work within your budget. And a $4000 budget is a very decent budget even in the more expensive cities.

  • for 7 bouquets  for my maids my bouquet 7 boutonnieres for the guys  thats 5 goomsmen my dad and fiance, 3 wrist corsages moms and my grandma and 2 arrangements for the church costing me 980 dollars im using regular and mini  daisys for the girls and the church, and me and my sister moh using regular and mini daisys and roses
  • For $3000: my bouquet, 5 BM, 2 moms, 11 bouts, 10 low centerpieces, 10 candle centerpieces (3 diff size pillar candles), 5 cocktail tables, fresh flowers for cake, big escort table arrangement.  I'm not doing anything for church. Doing combos of: roses, ranunculas, lisanthus, peonies (only my bouquet), tulips, hydrangea.  Pic is sample of low centerpiece.  This price includes delivery/setup/tax for medium size city next month.  Two other florists I got quotes from were also at this quote for same stuff.  I agree with others that's it shady that florist now saying to spend more when $4000 is a lot already!
  • Damn, that should get you plenty. I went into some florists with a budget of $500 and that would've gotten me some decent sized sunflower bouquets and boutonnieres. I wasn't planning on doing any decorating with flowers, but if I did I'd imagine I would've been hard pressed to find a way to spend more than $2k. That was in a small town.

My new venue in Minneapolis (so more expensive than a small town but still not like it's NYC or something) does flowers and their most expensive package is $1130. That's an orchid bridal bouquet, a toss bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres for all the guys, corsage for moms, and a flower girl basket. Floral centerpieces start at $35 each and go up to $120 if you really want to get fancy but the tall arrangements run about $50. That all still doesn't come to $4k and it's a very elaborate package.

20 tables is a lot, but yeah, I'd be suspicious. I bet if you'd said your budget was $3k she magically would've been able to do it for $4k.

    so helpful!
  • I feel that florists vary tons based on location.  I spent $2700 and I got:
    4 ceremony arrangements
    2 bouquets
    aisle petals
    8 tall centerpieces
    7 low centerpieces
    5 cocktail table arrangements
    bathroom arrangement
    foyer arrangement
    gift/seat chart table arrangement
    flowers for cake table

This included delivery, setup, and pickup.  We had hydrangea, orchids, roses, peonies, manzanita branches, tulips (peony tulips only for the foyer- looked like peonies but on a budget), and a host of other flowers that I had no clue.  I had no real specifications and just let the florist work his magic.

I knew a girl whose florist kept changing the prices too.. like constantly and right up until the wedding week.  I'd get out now.

Here's my bouquet, centerpieces, and ceremony flowers.  Hope this helps- I'll use any excuse to share my wedding pics ;)

  • My florist made my bouquet, three BM bouquets, flower girl petals, two corsages, five boutonnieres, church flowers, Mary dedication bouquet, entry table flowers, and 16 low table centerpieces for $2,600.  Mostly roses and lilies...I received a 20% discount off the total price for having an off-season wedding (in February).  If you happen to be in NYC, the florist is Flowers By Brian and is terrific.

I didn't go into my florist and announce my budget though- I described what I wanted and we worked from there.  With a dishonest or greedy florist, if you tell them what you can spend, they might charge you up to what they know you can pay.  Her asking you to spend another $1,000 is just wrong!

    Dream wedding flowers... gorgeous!
  • We are getting 3 bouquets (2 BM's, 1 MOH), a bridal bouquet, 4 Boutonnieres, and then we're having 2 large arrangements for the barrels by the alter, and then 10 arrangements for the aisle along with petals for the aisle.
After the ceremony, they're taking the 10 aisle arrangements and putting them onto the tables as centerpieces and she's making 2 more for the other 2 tables.

I would say, ask if you can reuse aisle arrangements as centerpieces! There's no reason to pay for aisle flowers and centerpieces unless you want two completely different sets of flowers for them.
Our total for everything, including delivery and set up is $1200

  • Wow! That seems to be a lot. We have my bridal bouquet, 5 bridesmaid bouquets, 5 boutonnieres, flowers for the church, some for reception, corsages, and my estimate was $525.
