Sandals

My FI and I are trying to decide between Sandals Emerald Bay in the Bahamas and Sandals Montego Bay in Jamaica for our honeymoon in October. Does anyone have any reviews on either resort? I've looked on tripadvisor and they seem to be mixed.

Re: Sandals

  • My friend stayed at the Montego Bay one and said she was not impressed. I guess the beach is kind of small and windy and she just wasn't blown away by the service or food or anything. I've not heard anything about the other one.

  • My friend stayed at the Sandals Emerald Bay and they said they loved it! The only thing they didn't like was the resort had no casino. As do some resorts on the Bahamas. But said the weather was perfect at the end of Sept.

  • Someone recommended Sandals Whitehouse in Negril, Jamaica, to me. I looked at the reviews and it sounds fantastic! It may be something to look into.

Whitehouse is not in Negril, it's in Whitehouse. There is a Sandals Negril also. Both Sandals Whitehouse and Sandals Negril are in Westmorland parish. However, they are approximately 1 1/2 hrs from each other. Both are also 1 1/2hrs from Mobay airport.

That being said, we have been to: Sandals Whitehouse (last month), Sandals Negril (2009), Sandals Antigua (2011) and Sandals Grande in St. Lucia (2008 and 2012).

I have reviews and pics in the link above my siggy pic if you would like to check them out.

Kristi, thank you so much for your detailed review.  My fiance and I are going there in July, and while I've read great reviews, I enjoyed reading about your time there.  Thanks again!

  • You're welcome. Have a great time!
  • Does Sandals include all meals or not? I don't see it in the what's included list. How does it work? Restaurants? Room service?

  • Yes they include all meals that's what all inclusive means. It's right on their website.

That being said, room service differs by resort as well as room category (basic no, club yes but limited*again, even this level differs by resort some do not offer it to club level*, butler yes). All alcoholic beverages are also include (non alcoholic too).

How it works, go to any of the resaurants on site, order, eat, leave. Room service, pick up the phone, order, wait for your order, eat, go about the rest of your day (or night).

Thanks for the info. I figured since it was all inclusive it would be included, but there's really no information about it that I could find (either about their restaurants or their room service, etc). I did see where alcohol is unlimited and included.

Edited to add... yes I know how eating in a restaurant and ordering room service works lol. I was asking how the food arrangements work as far as what is included and what isn't. If its like a free buffet for meals but the restaurants and room service were extra. I have never been to a sandals and this information is not black and white on their site. Thanks again though.

  • I figured you knew how eating in a restaurant worked it's just that it was such an odd question as it is stated on their website. Which, ever since they changed their site, I do understand isn't as black and white as it was. You just have to look around a bit. Sorry. http://www.sandals.com/difference/restaurants/ (hope that link works).

Price does include all the resturants (number of resturants varies by resort). That being said, Gordon's at the Grande in St. Lucia is NOT part of the all inclusive unless you are butler level. Normal guest I believe is $140. Also, beach dinners are not included (except the beach BBQ put on by the resort).

Usually for breakfast and lunch there's at least one buffet and the rest are ala cart (or room service if applicable), dinner is all resturants ala cart except the night the beach BBQ is held. Trust me, if you go hungry it's your own fault :) I'm a picky eater (drives dh nuts) and I always find something to eat.

The beauty of all inclusive is the only extra monies to spend are on things you want IE: food at airport, excursions, souvenirs, photos taken at the resort by the "paparazzi", tips for drivers (they are not Sandals employees) and airport staff (if airport staff "red caps" grab your bags for you *we always take our own from point A to point B). No tipping allowed at the resorts except for butlers (if you have them) and the Spa staff.

    Hope that helps a bit.
