Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Just for fun- what's on your 'do not play' list?

Ours is pretty short:

Chicken Dance
Baby Got Back
YMCA
Macarena
Or any other hokey dance song
Bruno Mars

Baba Karam (Persian music my future MIL hates)

Re: Just for fun- what's on your 'do not play' list?

  • Anything by Luke, or Puke, Bryan.
  • A DO NOT!!! It was played at my friend wedding
End of the road - Boyz II Men

  • Anything country.  It bugs me to no end, and my family loves it.  If I let them put in requests it'll be country music all night.  I figure if I say its not allowed then it'll only be played a normal amount.
  • YMCA
    Dancing Queen by Abba
    Firework by Katy Perry
    Bruno Mars

I like oldies but nothing too cheesy for a wedding ("Going to the chapel", "Lets Stay Together", etc.)

No Hokey Pokey or Chicken Dance for us.

I don't appreciate overly-sappy songs, either, like My Heart Will Go On or any of that shiz.

  • No country
    Paradise by the Dashboard Light
    Nothing from Grease
No organized dance songs: Macarena, Electric Slide, etc.
    Village People

  • No Pit Bull, Taylor Swift, or Pink. I can't stand any of them!

  • -NO country
-NO "Marry You" (Bruno Mars), "Marry Me" (Train), or anything else blatantly about getting married
-NO "Electric Slide" (the others are cheesy, but I can't stand the Electric Slide)
    -NO "Blurred Lines"
-NO Top 40s that have asinine lyrics about getting wasted, getting laid, or "the club"

This is a wedding, not homecoming.

Thank you for using the word asinine.

  • No organized dance songs

    No "Blurred Lines"

    No Chris Brown

Nothing with too much swearing until after the children leave

    No Ke$ha

    No Beiber

    ~*~*~*~*~

  • No Cha Cha Slide, Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, Macarena, YMCA

(Note: I do want to do the Electric Slide and Cupid Shuffle. 2 organized dances are enough and these are the ones I actually quite enjoy. Plus it makes for some fun videos.)

    No Taylor Swift

No songs with bad language or inappropriate lyrics, which pretty much eliminates hip hop.

    No Ice, Ice Baby

No What Does the Fox Say, Who Let the Dogs Out, or anything else with animals
  • No "blurred Lines"

No "selfie" (FI's request, I love bad techno)

  • I only have one thing on my "Do Not Play List". NO TAYLOR SWIFT. I love country but i'm so sick and tired of her.
  • No country.
No Katy Perry, J-Beebs, Robin Thicke, etc.
Nothing that will give FI's conservative Catholic grandma a heart palpitation (so no rap, nothing overtly sexual)

  • We're doing our own playlist so there's not technically a do not play list, but what I wouldn't consider playing is YMCA, Chicken Dance, or anything with "organized" dancing.
  • no black-eyed peas, kanye west, or beiber.
  • No country, techno, hip-hop, or rap.

No YMCA, Chicken Dance, Macarena, Electric Slide, Limbo, Bunny Hop, Hokey Pokey, Who Let The Dogs Out?, Unchained Melody, and some other things.

I'd like to avoid being held up in a chair during the Hora, but fat chance of that.  It is too ingrained in my family.

  • One thing I put was "NO Celine Dion under any circumstances.... even if my mom bribes you (she will try!) just tell her it's coming soon and then don't play it. Same goes for obscure French music." My mom wants all her fave French music and I said no. It would be rude to play music that FI's family does not understand or enjoy.

  • ^ think about maybe a pretty and romantic French song or two during dinner ... something everyone would love, and would make mama happy like this
Dream a Little Dream of Me from the movie French Kiss
  • No Lady Gaga

    No Madonna

    No country, at all

No hard rap with fuck you bitches style lyrics

none of the participation dances (ymca, chicken dance, conga, etc)
  • No line dances and no songs with lyrics that are derogatory toward women.

  • Let me take a selfie WILL NOT be played at my wedding. I want to run away screaming every time it comes on! Also...the chicken dance is more than likely going on the list. It's just so annoying!
  • No Beiber, Rihanna, or Drake
  • Looks like I could be a loner here, but my favorite two genres are country and rock-n-roll.... I can't stand rap, and also we won't be playing Rihanna, Beiber, Drake, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus...pretty much no real specific songs, and nothing of any genre that is offensive, vulger, or "break-up" music

Specific tunes: Baby Got Back, Hokey Pokey, Limbo, Bunny Hop, Electric Slide, Macarena, YMCA

Genres: Rap, hip-hop, techno rock, country, heavy metal
  • I want no country but I know that's what almost everyone there would like. I'd like to do mostly 80s lol it's the common ground between me and my fiancé, he loves country where I love everything but it!
  • Our list is pretty extensive: NO Macerena, Cotton Eye Joe, The Chicken Dance, Nickleback, Sheryl Crow, Shania Twain, Jewel, Seal (Especially “Kiss from a Rose on a Grave” – NO!!!), Lady Gaga, anything country, Rod Stewart, Usher (aside from “Yeah”), NO John Mayer at all, Blurred Lines, Moves like Jagger, Get Lucky, etc.

  • @ethelbeavers  First of all, you have the best username on this website.  I applaud this username.  Second of all, I believe it's just "kiss from a rose on the grey" - not quite as morbid :P  But I can see where you're coming from.  (It's a kind of inside joke among a few of our groomsmen, so I'm afraid we can't avoid Kiss From A Rose lol)
