Celebrity sightings - Manhattan

edited April 2014 in Snarky Brides

I think a number of Snarky board regs are in the city, so thought I'd share-

Yesterday I saw David Tutera.  Bit short, but handsome in person.  I resisted the urge to tell him to stop interpreting themes like a 13 year old girl lol

So adding him to the list, which includes Kurt Russell, Leonardo DiCaprio, JK Simmons, Chrissie Hynde, Clinton Kelly, Chris Titus and Tommy Hilfiger.

How about the rest of you, any good sightings?

  • I hugged Sam Elliott in an airport train in Munich. I guess he was going home from filming on The Golden Compass. It was a beautiful day.

I've lived in NYC my whole life but my list isn't very long- when I was 7 or 8 I saw Bill Cosby, which was huge since I was a fan of his Jell-O commercials lol. And a couple of years ago I saw Tracy Morgan on a cell phone outside the GameStop near Herald Sq. I've also seen some stars on movie sets, filming, not sure if that counts?
  • Saw Michelle Pfeiffer years ago at a restaurant near Broadway. I randomly see actors and rappers all over the place in NYC. Outside of NYC, I measured Phil Rizzuto for suits and did his wife's makeup back when I used to work retail.

Chris Noth (Mr. Big) at a coffee shop near NYU
Joe and Hadassah Lieberman a few blocks north of Times Square
Joe Biden (when he was still a senator) in the elevator at the Yale Club in midtown
Stephen Colbert coming out of his studio after show filming (the studio is half a block from my apt)
David Zayas (the guy who played Sgt Batista in Dexter) in the CVS on the ground floor of my apt. building
Judith Light (from Who's the Boss, etc.) at a dry cleaner in near my office in midtown

Not in NYC, but I went to college at the same time as Claire Danes (before she dropped out to do more movies) and she sat at my table in the dining hall once.
  • I'm 30 minutes from NYC. I've seen James Gandolfini, Bill Murray, Rosie O'Donnell. I met Sway from MTV at a bar in Harlem and hung out with him and his friends.
  • I seem to see people pretty frequently.

Tim Curry coming into the MTV building
Matthew Broderick & Nathan Lane on the way to the theater when they were doing The Odd Couple
Brad Garret in the theater district
The original cast of Spamalot at a Theatre District bar after a show, including Eric Idle, Hank Azaria, etc
Phillip Seymour Hoffman (RIP!) at the snack bar during intermission at Shakespeare in the Park
Wallace Shawn near the Public Theatre
Katie Curic at a movie theater with her daughters on the UES
Eliot Spitzer (post hookers) running in Central Park
    David Bowie on the Bowery
    Diddy near his office
Most of the reporters on the Daily Show at various brunch places
    Yoko Ono...everywhere
And just last week I saw Saul from Mad Men get on at my subway stop.

H once saw Bono just walking down the street, that's the only one I've been jealous of.

  • When visiting NYC, I have seen a Baldwin in Central Park, Vanessa Williams on 42nd Street, and sat next to Danny Devito at a Broadway show.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Friends and I were in line at a movie theater in midtown.  The guy behind us and his date were making painfully awkward small talk.  I turned around at one point and it was none other than Jeff Goldblum!

I wonder if they went out again after that... it didn't sound too promising...

  • I nearly walked straight into Sarah Jessica Parker by central park. I met comedian Gabriel Iglesias outside of radio city music hall. I met Dennis Rodman at JFK airport. Yes that is not in Manhattan but I am gonna count it.
I have met bunches celebrities but most of them not in Manhattan.
    Donnie Whalberg in Atlantic City
The cast of Sons of Anarchy in LA
Al Lewis, Buster Pointdexter (sp?), Chris Noth, Sal Vulcano from Impractical jokers, Dan Akroyd, Sean Astin, Jason David Frank (Green power ranger lol) and some others I cant remember right now.

  • I met Peter Frampton at the airport. That was cool. I met George and Rosemary Clooney too. That is actually a neat story. My mom's BFF lives in the town the Clooneys are from. So we were down there visiting and we're walking around and we were going down the street Rosemary's house was on and Nick (George's dad) was helping Rosemary into the house while George carried groceries in. We talked to Nick and Rosemary for a few minutes, they were really friendly and George said hi and they took a picture with us. It was cool.
  • Neil Patrick Harris was my neighbor until recently! He upgraded to a brownstone. That's the biggest thing of note. Otherwise it's too many sightings to list!
  • I almost collided with Genevieve Gorder walking down my block the other day.  Although this was in downtown JC, not Manhattan.
I'm in Manhattan every day but the list is pretty short there:
    Brad Garrett outside Carnegie Hall.
A tiny piece of Lady Gaga's head across the street.  She was getting swamped by people.
Michael Kay outside Yankee Stadium after a game.
James Gandolfini was at Fi's graduation because it's his alma mater. (Also NJ though)

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • I have met George Lopez, he kept introducing himself to me and calling me an amazon.  I met OJ Simpson... after murder, but before prison, and he was hitting on me.  He asked for my number... I told him I was a blonde, so that was a bit of a health hazard for me.  I met Mel B (scary spice)...  she told me I was ugly and she wanted another waitress. I also met Mike Duncan when he was still alive, and he gave me the wonderful line, "Do you know who I am?" I asked him if he was Alfonso Ribiero.  That shut him up.  (Although, if I actually met Alfonso, that would be awesome... I'd be tempted to do the Carlton!)  I used to be a waitress in Miami Beach.  Met a lot of douchebags there. A few stars I would love to meet would be Ina Garten (personal hero), Julia Roberts, and, of course, Bradley Cooper
  • I'm from Miami so I've seen the music crowd around the beach...Of course, Pitbull, Dre, Diddy, Luda (getting schwasted at Wet Willies), Birdman, Gabriel Iglesias (sp) at a table next to me when I was at a club, the likes of those guys. I'm sorry you had to wait on those guys, themuffinman16

In 2012 I worked at a hotel in Orlando when the All Star games were in town, and a lot of the players were staying at my hotel. Even though I'm a Miami Heat fan, my loathing for Lebron grew after that (he's a jerk). Currently I work at a luxury hotel in Orlando. John Travolta, Bret Michaels, Kristy Alley (hysterical), Larry the Cable Guy, Colbie Callet, some UFC guys other people had to tell me, a lot of Christian singers who were in town for a special event, Steve Tyler, and most recently, the lead singer of Rascal Flatts. I'm usually not star struck, but considering that FI and I almost chose a Rascal Flatts song as our first dance, I was a little shakey when I was helping him. There's more than that, I just can't think of names at this time. Mas cafe, por favor.

  • Oh that sounds glamorous and fun to live in the city and spot these people!

My friend is an actress who lives in the Bronx. I just happened to plan a day trip to NYC to see Rockefeller Center and the Christmas Tree, and she said we are filming Tower Heist at the Trump Plaza if you want to come say hi. So a friend and I did our shopping and stuff then wandered over there and the roads were all blocked off for filming, we found our way into a crowd on the sidewalk and just stood there. Well turns out that was a scene with Ben Stiller, so people came over yelling at us at if we weren't paid extras we needed to leave/move. We were like seriously- these people are just standing here with coats and shopping bags chatting exactly like us, we don't stand out at all, why are they getting paid and why can't we stand with them?!

At a Cirque Du Soliel show in Vegas, my best friend came out of the bathroom and said "So you know AnnaLynne McCord from the new 90210? She's snorting lines in the bathroom." I was so mad that my friend didn't get a picture- I'm like hello TMZ would have given us a million dollars!! lol

  • In chicago, I see Kristen Cav. And I am pretty sure she doesnt count as a celebrity.

I also see Vince Vaugn (lives in the same building as a friend) and Guilana Rancic (owns a restaurant and lives in a area I frequent)

A few weeks ago, I rode the elevator in my building with Mikhail Baryshnikov (Aleksandre Petrovsky from SATC). Mario Cantone (Anthony Marantino also SATC) lives in my neighborhood, so I have seen him a few times in the supermarket, or by the train station. I saw Ron Livingston also in CVS, in my neighborhood. Funny, because Sex and the City is one of my favorite shows.

My coworker and I saw Stephen Baldwin once, and on Friday we saw Nick Stahl, both by work. I saw Samuel L Jackson another time while he was filming a scene, and I pulled out my camera to take a pic, and my POS blackberry (at the time) froze. I also saw Jim Gaffigan at a comedy show, and possibly at the park with his kids ( I remember it was a famous comedian but not sure if it was him).

In HS I took an acting class with Carlos Leon (Madona's baby daddy), and I met Keanu Reeves (more like made a fool of myself). I was thisclose to meeting Sarah Jessica Parker, apparently she was filming that New Year movie in my building at work. Oh, and I saw the filming of the show Suits, and all the actors in it, outside my office.

  • It makes me sad that Baryshnikov is the SATC guy instead of "the dancer!"

    In, NY, I've seen
    • Carson Daly in Times Square back when TRL was on
    • Philip Seymour Hoffman smoking a cigarette on a side street on a Saturday morning
    • Chelsea Clinton and her husband (before they were married) at the theater seeing Raisin the Sun (the last production, not the one happening now)
    • Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara while they were between Saturday performances of their most recent show together-- eating at Joe Allen's
    • met Rosie O'Donnell, Victor Garber, and Dan Bucatinsky at a fundraiser last year. Victor Garber's husband may be the most handsome man I've ever met in real life!

I saw Matthew Fox once at LAX between his Party of Five days and LOST.

Chase Utley, the 2nd baseman for the Phillies, used to live in my neighborhood so I'd see him walking the dog occasionally. He and his wife sold their condo recently. Jen Weiner, who wrote Good in Bed and a bunch of other novels lives in Philly so I see her occasionally. She's always a mess.

Haha, I know he's a famous ballet dancer, but I thought the SATC reference went well since my other 3 sightings were from the show :)

  • @inkdancer, at first I did not recognize him, although he looked very familiar to me. Then finally, it hit me and I was like NO WAY!!!! He was with a group of about 4 other people, and I didn't want to interrupt their conversation, so I "played it cool." I briefly considered trying to sneak a picture but that would be way too creepy. I kinda kicked myself after, thinking I should have made a comment or something, but knowing me, it would have come out very creepy and awkward, haha!

I would have been creepy and awkward, because the first thing that pops into my head is "your ass looks really good when you dance". Nothing about how well he dances or what an inspiration he is. Just "dat ass". SMH at myself...

Yea, it was very cool! He definitely does not live in my building, so I hope he continues to visit whoever it is that lives there!

  • I am from New Jersey, close to Atlantic City, and used to work at a hotel a lot of famous people stay at when they don't want to actually stay in the city. Working there i met Denzel Washington, Joan Rivers, Ron Howard, Willie Nelson and Joan Rivers. My sister met OJ Simpson there and the Rolling Stones. I also walked past David Spade in one of the casinos

  • @pinkcow13 I would have loved to have seen Mikhail Baryshnikov.  I love him and his dancing.

My dad owns a shoe store on the UWS so when I go to visit him, I've seen a few people coming in and out of his store.  My favorite was Bernadette Peters.
