Need Honeymoon Ideas!

We are looking for unique places to go on our honeymoon. Were getting married in Mexico and we've been to Dominican already. Has anyone been to St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Turks and Caicos? Any other recomendations?

St Maarten was beautiful, but I've never been to St. Lucia or Turks and Caicos.  My cousin takes her family on a Caribbean vacation every year, and says that St. Lucia is her favorite.

I've also heard that Costa Rica and Panama are both gorgeous!

I've been to St. Maarten and St. Lucia as cruise ports.  Of the two if I had to be in one for a week I'd choose St. Lucia.

You can get great info on all those place on TripAdvisor.com which is to travel what the Knot is to weddings.

When you say you want unique . . . what does that mean? Do you want someplace nobody has ever heard of?  Do you want activities you can't get at home?  Also what's your price point?

St. Maarten is big for food, duty-free shopping and casinos. It is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean.

Turks & Caicos doesn't have a whole lot going on-the main attraction is the water-it really is the most beautiful, clear water I've ever seen. So if you want to snorkel & dive, or just enjoy a really nice beach, it's a great place. But if you want stuff to do, or a lot of restaurants to choose from...not a good choice.

St. Lucia's beaches are not as nice, but it has much more dramatic scenery with the Pitons. You'll also have more luxury accommodations to choose from.

What sorts of activities are you looking for?

Are you really getting married in Mexico?  Their laws are quite strict, and it is not easy to arrange a marriage there..
Why not find a good AI in Mexico?  None of the places you suggest are "unique"?  What do you really want?

I want to go somewhere that we might not go to again, maybe a little more fancy or expensive than the average all inclusive. We can go to Mexico or Dominican anytime.

Did he or she say what they meant by "easier?'  There are still a lot of steps and restrictions I believe.

This link is helpful...  While it seems tedious, it's doable.

The BVI (British Virgin Islands) are the best 'secret' in the Caribbean.  (not a secret, just not on the main tourist track!)  They are not cheap and a bit of a hike to get to, but so worth it.  Try googling resorts on Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke.  They have resorts that are tiny and luxurious, absolutely wonderful.

Among the few I've stayed at, Long Bay http://www.longbay.com/  was lovely.  I've also heard Petit St. Vincent is incredible, the whole island is the resort: http://www.petitstvincent.com/

    Happy planning!

Just got back from our honeymoon in Belize we split up our time between an island off the coast and the jungle.  It was perfect, the food was great, the people were so friendly and there was so much to do.

A cruise is a good idea if you aren't sure where to go and aren't set on a particular location. That way you get to hit up a lot of different locations.

I went to Costa Rica on a family vacation quite a while ago, but I remember enjoying it for the most part (any non-enjoyment was due to particular tastes clashing with the family schedule). A lot of fun activities if you're the adventurous type (cable gliding, horse riding, trekking down extinct volcanoes to see waterfalls, natural hot springs near the living volcanoes, etc). It's also nice because you can easily hit up both beaches and jungle.

Mostly, I would echo what others are saying about TripAdvisor. Super great resource for vacation planning. I think any of their top all-inclusives would be a great option. We're probably heading to one in Dominican Republic based on TripAdvisor reviews/suggestions.

St. Maarten - busy cruise port - things can get crowded
Turks and Caicos - beautiful and amazing if you're into watersports/diving. Can be a bit boring if not.

If you're getting married in Mexico, would you want something close to there? If not, what about Antigua? I was at Curtain's Bluff last year which was phenomenal!

BTW - TripAdvisor is great if you know what destination to find a hotel... but something I learned too is if you use an advisor - they can help you narrow down what exactly it is you're looking for!  I've also learned that they can get the same prices but usually with free upgrades or goodies because they have a relationship with the properties!
