Dress shopping timeline

I think I know the answer to this but I'm going to ask it anyway.

I'm getting married in January. When should I have a dress purchased by? 

My BM lives out of state and has had some medical issues come up. We were planning on her flying here in May to go shopping but surgery/healing/infection has prevented that from happening. She is due to have radiation the beginning of August and we are looking at her flying in the weekend of August 23rd to go shopping. Is that really pushing my luck or should I go as soon as I can and just share pictures with her?

I would go now. I waited until March to order my dress (getting married in October) and I received it last week. Now I just have to get alterations done on time since I'm having bridal photos done in September. The earlier you go, the easier things will be and you won't feel as rushed to make a decision.

For January, go now! Some designers take 6-8 months to order, so you may already be reaching for a few of them. And you'll want your dress in December so you have time for alterations and fittings.

Yep, chances are, you are already ruling out some designers. Maggie dresses are typically about 6-7 months, and a few other designers are in the 8 month range.   And you have to allow time for alterations.   So, you are already limited on designers. Unless you are planning on Davids Bridal, which can get most of their dresses in 3-6 weeks, go now.

I probably should have gotten off my ass a long time ago but things just kept coming up.

I was planning on David's Bridal so perhaps I have some wiggle room.

oh yeah, if you are set on Davids Bridal and you know you can find a dress there that you love, you are fine to wait until August.  Most of their dresses come in within 30 days
