Damn you Tuesday

So our other office leaked what the big meeting is about today. They are offering employee buyouts to try and get us to leave before they cut more so they can reduce the budget. They're trying to sell all the newspapers and need our budget lower to look more "attractive." Pretty much, I either will lose my job in the coming days/weeks or I leave. I'm not leaving because the buyout offer is horrible (1 week's salary for every 2 years you've been with the company) and I haven't even been here 2 years. Just fml. This is not how I wanted to start my day.

How is everyone else's Tuesday? Please be somewhat happy. I'm so stressed.

Re: Damn you Tuesday

  • @Blackbird230 - are you with the newspapers that they are trying to get rid of?  sounds like you should get working on your resume pronto.  how long do you have until they'll start reducing staff?  if you only have a week or so left, it might be worth taking the buyout... you'll still get the pay but you can start job hunting immediately.  I'm really sorry, that sucks!!!

I am tired today.  didn't sleep well...  the only thing about the new BCP I'm on that I don't like.

also, my abs feel bruised because I'm so sore from Insanity Month 2.  and my buns.  and my back.

  • @Blackbird230 I'm so sorry. That completely sucks. Is there any chance of you staying? No matter what, it's time to put on your job-hunting hat and get going. We've al been there and it SUCKS to have to look for a new job, but time and time again it results in finding something even better than whatever you're leaving. Hang in there!

  • Ugh, sending you lots of hugs @blackbird230. That is stressful. Here's something to cheer you up: clicky

I'm on the struggle bus today. Why, you ask? Because I stayed up late interneting...when will I learn? Other than that, Tuesday morning is going pretty well. There's nothing on my calendar which is fabulous...now I'm just hoping my boss will leave a little early.

  • @Blackbird230 I'm so sorry to hear about this.. I hope that you will be able to keep your job. Is there any chance you won't be laid off?

I'm super tired and sore today. Yesterday at CrossFit we did weighted lunges and burpees sooo my buns and legs are dead. Then afterwards we had back to back softball games (which we won both of them YAY) so I'm sooo beat. I slept like a huge rock last night.

Tonight H has to work so I'm going to catch up on the Bachelorette and rest and let my body try to come back to normalcy.
  • @Blackbird230, lots of hugs.

I'm just tired. Not good or bad, just tired.
  • @southernpeach89 - OMG, XFit and then softball?  how do you do it???  I was exhausted after my Insanity work out, and then I spent almost 3 hours in the kitchen.  I was dead to the world after that.
  • @CocoBellaF -Mondays are always my "get my butt back into gear" days after the weekend. The workouts always suck because I either ate bad over the weekend or didn't work out. Yesterday just happened to be extremely bad lol! H and I are both feeling it today.
  • I'm so sorry to hear that @Blackbird230. My aunt worked for the Providence Journal for 35 years, and they laid her off with a similar buy-out. It's so sad to hear about our local papers being bought out by larger corporations or going "digital".

Today, yet again, I am contemplating going to the beach. I always feel like you MUST leave early for a beach day, but then when I get there people really start showing up around noon. I know I will regret it if I don't go, but I still feel sleepy!
  • That's terrible news. I'm so sorry @blackbird230 :( And what a terrible buyout! I would definitely be working on my resume and putting it in to as many jobs as possible.  Hopefully this just means that something bigger and better is ahead, but either way it sucks and I'm sorry you're going through this.  Lots of t&p's your way.

  • @Blackbird230 - Is your job deemed a job where they might offer you a 'retention bonus' instead (meaning you won't leave until they sell and they'll give you a 'bonus' to stay)?  I know our major newspaper is always doing stuff offering buyouts and making employees taking a week furlough.  How disappointing!!  Hopefully you find something fast where you can double dip and benefit from a buyout and start a new job (that's what FI did years ago).

I dropped Loki off at the vets - I think he has a skin infection.  I'll pick him up after work.  Tomorrow I take my cat (same deal - not sure if it's a skin infection or something else going on though).

  • @blackbird230 sorry to hear about what happened!

My Tuesday is just as crap-tastic. I had a meeting just now about moving my office. I thought my office would be moved only a short distance (I'd at least would still be on this campus). Come to find out, they're moving me to another campus in town. It screws with my commute since my commuter shuttle doesn't stop at this campus so now I have to pay for parking again which is $100 a month right now to park in a dirt lot in a crime-ridden part of town.

FI and I are going to talk about it because this along with regular maintenance on my car is going to screw with our budget. I don't know what my options are at this point, and I'm not happy right now at all.

  • @Blackbird230 That is brutal, I'm so sorry to hear about the work situation...1 week for every 2 years? That's deplorable. At least them spilling the beans early gives you an extra day to work on your resume and start sending it out? Sending you good vibes!

I am really tired today...I watched the whole bachelorette finale last night and then was playing around with my hair and makeup because FI and I are supposed to have our engagement photos tonight! That's assuming the weather cooperates, which isn't looking likely at this point, so we may have to reschedule for next week. Blah.

  • Man, it seems like everyone is having a crappy Tuesday~!

I just got up so I guess there's still time for me...

Today is my grandma's bday, and I'm taking her out for froyo later!  Hopefully it won't be crowded at 2pm... I got her card months ago but I still haven't gotten her gift even though we had her party on Sunday, which I rolled into an hour late straight from the wedding in Delaware.  Maybe a gift card?  So hard to buy for someone like her!

  • @CocoBellaF, I can't take the buyout since I haven't been here for two years even.

I don't know if there's a chance I won't get laid off. We have no idea and that's a big piece of the problem.

@dignity100, I've never heard of that so probably not?

  • @Blackbird230 - so sorry to hear...I wish you the best in how this will play out.

I don't have tons of happiness...so I offer this instead:

  • @Blackbird230 *hugs*!  I hope the meeting goes smoothly today (even though it'll probably stink according to the rumors).  Is it possible that it is just rumors?  I realize the newspaper industry is definitely hurting, but H's old job had rumors of layoffs ALL THE DAMN TIME (it is part of the reason I'm glad he got a new one!)  I start my job search again if I don't get a call today about the interview on Thursday, so worst comes to worst, we'll be job search buddies?  (I hope for both of us that doesn't happen)

Today is a good day because I got my stitches out!  I'm mainly just glad it's over because I'm scared of everything medical lol, but I did SO good and didn't pass out or scream or anything.  The doctor was totally laughing at me though, but it's because he understands that I am somewhat psycho and that I fully accept this fact.  He's a great guy - I'm glad to have him on my side during this treatment process.  And now, we're going to buy a house, pay my hospital bills, and then find a specialist to look at long term care for my oh so awesome condition.  Unless it flares up again, in which case I have a surgeon on call apparently (who the heck has a surgeon on call?!)

    I am special.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @Blue&White, sadly it's real. It's already started in the office that they told yesterday.

  • That really sucks! I'm sorry, that is really stressful and I hope you make it unscathed. My boss just told me last night that they gave everyone at corporate walking papers for the first of the year. some of them have been there for 25 years! I am not located at corporate so some of the work might get pushed to me, or they could start coming after us other locations, we have no idea yet.

  • @Blackbird230

I am sorry. That really stinks. I hope that this ends up being a situation that works in your favor. It might not seem like it right away, but maybe this will open bigger and better doors for you!
  • Ugh, I'm so sorry @Blackbird230. That's a terrible situation all around. I guess all you can do right now is get your resume together and start job searching ASAP. *hugs*

My Tuesday started really well - it's someones birthday in my office, so we had cake for breakfast.

@Blackbird230 - I'm sorry to hear that but at least it sounds like they are trying to persuade long term employees to leave (they probably make more $$ too so that would help them).
    I wouldn't seat too much.

I won't go into my Terrible Tuesday again. Already posted it in Monday's thread. :-(

  • @Blackbird230 I'm sorry! That is so frustrating. If you're laid off due to budgetary reasons (which is what it sounds like) you may be eligible for unemployment, which would be something! I hate to hear about staff being treated so poorly :(

This is random, but @Dignitiy100 I LOVE your pet's name!! (dog?)

@Blackbird230 Sending all the hugs! The newspaper business is rough...especially with everything going digital. It's a tough struggle for even major newspapers to find the right balance between online and print content and the smaller papers are just left completely in the dust sometimes. I hope everything works out for the better!

  • @Blackbird230 - Sending some big love and great vibes your way! The job market is so flippin volatile, particularly anything related to print/journalism. I wish that people were given more notice when their careers may be on the line and their life may be flipoped upside down. Unfortunately, privately owned companies can do pretty much whatever they want in that sense.

I know it doesn't help much, but maybe you could get a job with the government! They don't fire anyone! At my company (government entity), a guy would pee or jizz or something like it on women's garments when they were left in their cubicles overnight. They called him the "sweater wetter". He still works here, in the field. Just in a closet or somewhere similar.

My night ended badly, and somewhat carried over to this morning. I know it doesn't make a ton of sense, but in trying to be sexy last night my words came out wrong and I essentially told BF to pretend I was his boss (who he hates) when he was having sex with me. He thought I was mocking him, it was awkward, and I still don't think he understands what I was trying to say because he's mortified by the thought of it, haha. I finished the Michelle Knight book and went to sleep, without sex. He wasn't quite lovey this morning, but I'm sure we'll be fine by tonight.
