Photography - what's the difference between DVD and flash drive

Now, I know what each are, but is there a difference in quality of the photos whether you get them on a flash drive or a dvd? I see different offerings from different photographers and i'm not sure I know what the difference is.

Also, once you have these images, how easy is it to make your own albums or order your own prints? Do you do it through your photographer or some website?

Sorry, I'm newly engaged and less than a year away from the wedding and have no idea how this wedding stuff works.

DVD vs flash drive - shouldn't matter, all you care about is having the images.

I thought that a flash drive held more photos, I could be wrong though. My photog gives a DVD for engagement photos and a flash drive for the wedding photos. I believe that as long as you own the rights to the photos you can upload and print them from anywhere you want; your home printer, shutterfly, etc.
