How was your weekend?

Mine was so busy! I did all the things!

Saturday morning was almost a total wash. I got up early to do some yard work but it started storming and basically rained until it was time for me to leave for my third and final alterations appointment! I'm so much happier with my dress now! It fits the way I want it too and I don't feel self conscious about how it tight it looked around my waist and hips. After my appointment I dropped my dress off at the salon for steaming and pressing and ran some other errands. Then I got home and helped FI do yard projects until it was too dark to see. I worked my ass off all evening trimming bushes, raking, shoveling, moving firewood...it sucked but the yard looks a lot better now.

Sunday I woke up early again to do more yard work. I got three bushes trimmed in the front yard before it started raining again. It rained until about noon before I was able to go out and finish trimming bushes and cleaning stuff up. Then I went to Kinko's and printed out escort cards, programs, menus, and welcome letters. I had literally 300 pages of stationary to trim the edges off and it was going to take me hours but Kinko's noticed what I was doing and cut them up for me using their big machine that can cut hundreds of pages at once. So I got everything finished at 4:30 instead of some god-awful time and met my friend for an early dinner and some shopping. FI had his bachelor party last night so I had the rest of the evening to myself! I spent it getting the escort cards folded, and the front and back pages of the programs glued together.

Today I got the final invoice from my venue...and I am so happy because it's over $1000 less than what I've been estimating! I am so so happy! This was the one thing that was stressing me out. We have our final venue meeting tonight and I am taking over everything that's WR-related in my house! I'll finally have my home office back! After this meeting, I don't have to worry about the wedding anymore aside from one last consult with the DJ and picking up my favors on Friday. Everything else from here on out is related to getting the house ready for guests and putting together the final touches for the RD.

Re: How was your weekend?

  • @LaPeanut1018 - I'll say it again... FIVE DAYS!!!! Sounds like a great weekend.

We had a fairly productive weekend. We managed to get through some of the house Friday night for the garage sale on Saturday. It turned out pretty good, we probably would have doubled our sales if we had gotten through the house in its entirety. The good news is that there's another community wide yard sale in the Spring, so we'll start planning for that now.

Saturday evening we ended up staying in and cleaning the house which continued into Sunday. I also managed to paint the table we're planning to use for a desk. Now we just have to get the rest of the corks cut and get the epoxy to seal it all in. I think it's going to be really cool looking.

Also, I cannot believe it's Monday already. I want to protest.

  • yay, @LaPeanut1018!!!  your wedding is almost heeeeeeere!!!l

I didn't do much of anything this weekend, unfortunately.  Friday I was off at 11:15.  H and I had lunch at a wonderful NM-style place (I want to go back on a Saturday for brunch and then again for their Saturday night green chili chile and cheddar biscuits!) and did some shopping at the Outlet malls.  we got a few Christmas gifts taken care of (YES!) and I found a pair of boots at the Nine West outlet.  I am a happy camper!  we did grocery shopping, blah blah blah I don't remember what else.  at some point we went to bed.

Saturday, I had my class in the morning.  we ran errands, ate lunch (gryo salad), went home, took a nice nap.  I studied a little bit, we watched some Netflix, and then we made ST's new Roasted Poblanos.  they were wonderful, but a word of wisdom:  WEAR GLOVES.  I dug out the seeds with my fingers (my MIL does it, and poblanos aren't really spicy!) and my hands were on fire until about 2 AM.  I'm talking, I tried to soak them in milk, yogurt, olive oil, ANYTHING.  finally I stuck them in ice water, and when that didn't bring relief, I ended up sticking them inside some ice packs we had in the freezer.  it was awful and the worst kitchen mistake I've made yet.

so that was my Saturday night!  Sunday morning, we had church and then a friend came over and ate lunch with us.  I made some awesome chili, it was a new recipe and so good!  I napped (to make up for the poblano night before) and we watched some more Netflix, I studied a little, and then we had choir practice/evening church.

that was it!  not much exciting, except the Poblano Incident of 2014.
  • @LaPeanut1018 I'm so excited for you! I can't believe it's only 5 days away. That's so awesome that basically everything is done too. You two will be able to relax a bit this week and get mentally and emotionally prepared for the whirlwind that this weekend will be. I'm so glad that your dress is perfect, the venue is less expensive than planned, and you're basically all ready to go. YAY! You are going to be such a beautiful bride, and I know the whole day will be absolutely perfect (even if the weather is as crazy as it was this weekend). I can't wait for @southernpeach89 to AW pics! :)

My weekend was lazy and wonderful. I ate tons of junk food, binge-watched Gilmore Girls, and basically did very little that was productive. It was such a nice change of pace after the craziness of last week. This week I'm determined not to work late. Friday night we went out with friends we hadn't seen in a while. We ate dinner at one of my favorite restaurants (mmm saksuka and gyro meat are such a good combination), then came back to the apartment and gamed a bit. Those particular friends are going through a really difficult time right now with a family member's last few days here (stage 4 cancer), so FI and I did our best to get their minds off it. They also volunteered to make our invitations for us, which would be so amazing. They made their own invitations when they got married, and they said they could do something similar for us. If they're able to, I think they'll save us hundreds of dollars, so I'm hopeful it will work out.

Saturday we were lazy bums. I didn't even shower. I watched Gilmore Girls all day while FI goofed off on his computer, and then we watched a couple of movies that night. We ate fast food and cuddled. It was awesome.

Sunday we ate lunch with FI's extended family for his aunt's birthday, and then we drove FI's parents by the venue so they could see it. Afterwards FI and I went grocery shopping, did some minor chores around the apartment, and then goofed off on our computers.

FI has spent the past few days making fancy spreadsheets for WR things. He's really excited about it. He's already handy with Excel, but he's been researching different formulas he can implement to help with keeping all of the data straight. It makes me smile to see how involved and excited he is with the wedding stuff.

I had an appointment with my ENT this morning, and he said he's happy with the progress I've made on the allergy shots. My nasal passages are not swollen, the mucus is not abnormal, and my reliance on antihistamines and steroids for my allergies and sinus issues have all but disappeared. He told me to come back in a year to re-evaluate everything, but if I continue at this rate, surgery will not be needed. Woohoo!

  • @lapeanut1018 omg 5 days!

My weekend was ok.  Friday was H & I 5 year dating anniversary we didn't do anything for it.  He did bring me home roses and a cupcake! We exchanged cards too.  It made me happy the small gesture.

On Saturday morning I woke up to find my friend of 15 years lost his battle with Pancreatic cancer.  We did theater together and he was saying he was actually well enough to perform in our annual production of A Xmas carol together.  I'm so sad,  I will miss him a lot, this year's Xmas carol just won't be the same.  We did have some friends over for game night, which was fun and a bit of a distraction from the sad news earlier in the day.  I got to play with my friend's babies which was a lot of fun.

Sunday was a lazy day we did nothing really.  Just sat around watched football and later on watched The Walking Dead.

  • @Peaseblossom55 I'm so sorry to hear about your friend! Cancer is so terrible! :( Thinking of you and his family and loved ones.

  • yay @lapeanut1018! So close!!

@cocobellaf, sorry about the Poblano Incident of 2014.

@eilis1228, fingers crossed that you won't need surgery!

@peaseblossom55, thinking of you and your friend's family. Cancer sucks.

My weekend was pretty darn good. Friday night we went to gaming. Saturday FI took out the Chinese elms on the north side of the house, then he went to another gaming group that night and I had the house to myself for the evening. I watched "30 For 30" documentaries on Netflix. Such a wild woman I am. Sunday was for football and more knitting.

We had a couple disagreements this weekend - first over how much he's contributing to the housework right now (I'm knitting every hour I'm home, which is like another full-time job, and he's not making as much progress as I thought he would in his time off) and over our dietary habits (no, FI, it is not easy for me to behave when I watch you eat 3 cookies because I am not good at deprivation or being hungry, both of which I feel like I'm doing on this stupid let's-get-Stitches-healthy-before-her-wedding-diet). Vibes for us to sort this out quickly and painlessly?

@KeptInStitches Ohhh trying to be on a diet while watching your SO eat is incredibly difficult. I know how that goes. FI now has a junk food cabinet that I can't reach, and he eats all that stuff when I'm not around. Hopefully you guys can find a solution that works you both!

@peaseblossom55 I'm so sorry to hear about your friend! :( Cancer is terrible.

@CocoBellaF Ouch! That sounds awful! :( I'm so sorry the peppers burned you so badly. I wouldn't have expected that reaction either from poblanos. I hope your hands have recovered!

ETA A friend just posted some pics from a wedding he went to over the weekend. During the ceremony, the couple pulled out their phones and updated their relationship status on FB. WHAT.

  • My weekend has not been terribly relaxing. Saturday, I was supposed to go to work, so I spent the first half of the day in stressed, "I should be at work" mode.

Sunday, I was supposed to get up at 7:30 to get to work to do the stuff I'd planned to do on Saturday. It was only going to take a few hours, but because of my other plans for the day, I wanted to get it done early. But I ended up sleeping through my alarm and waking up at 9:30! We ended up having to cancel building the chuppah with J's parents. I told J, "I could do next weekend on Sunday," and he didn't hear me because he was on the phone with them, so he told them we'd come over today to work on it.

Then I went downtown to meet up with a friend whom I know through Twitter. I had a really nice time! My mom always talks about my "internet friends," but eh, I like my internet friends.

After that, I went into work ... only to find that my cells had grown too much to run the experiment I'd wanted to run in the morning anyway. So I plated them to redo the experiment today. Then I had to stay at work because there wasn't enough time to go home before more plans were happening.

I met up with J and his family at the Shake Shack later in the evening, and then we went to a folk music concert. J's dad loves all kinds of music, and he'd been to a concert over the summer that he'd loved, so when he found out the guy was coming back to Boston the day before his birthday, he told us all he wanted to go together. It was a lot of fun, but we didn't get home till really late.

Today, I accidentally slept in because we got home so late. I'm at work now, for the next two and a half hours or so, and then we're going to finish the chuppah. Then we're celebrating J's dad's birthday (sort of again, it's hard to explain).

Honestly, if I get home in time to watch Once Upon a Time, I will be okay.

  • @peaseblossom55 I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. cancer sucks!

My weekend was uneventful as usual. Saturday I had lunch with some friends and then I was supposed to do some errands but on the way to lunch a huge spider came flying down from my rear view mirror and scared the crap out of me. I couldn't find it so I was too scared to drive anywhere else for fear that it would reappear.
I checked my car for about 10 minutes this morning before I left for work and spent the whole ride to work glancing around, just waiting for it! I have serious issues when it comes to spiders.

Yesterday I did absolutely nothing but clean my kitchen.

  • @peaseblossom55 - *hugs* I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Cancer sucks.

My weekend was relaxing but not especially exciting. I didn't do much of anything. Saturday night we hung out with a friend. She told us about some good changes in her life which was nice to hear since usually we just hear about more bad decisions she's making. It seems like she is finally getting her life together, assuming she follows through with the plans she told us about.

This morning I had a session with my personal trainer. It was killer. The only thing I really don't like about my personal training sessions is that afterwards I feel very sick. I don't know what to do to avoid that but I feel like vomiting 30-45 minutes after each work-out. It's quite unpleasant. So right now I'm laying down and listening to Harry Potter on audiobook while I wait until I feel a bit better before getting ready for work.

  • @phira --- how is your chuppah building going? I think we may need to DIY as well.. I'd love any tips you can give!

My weekend was good. Taught my class on Saturday. Driving on the highway in the rain is no fun, which I'm guessing is the  reason I was missing three students... but other than that the class went well. My most annoying student told me "you're my second favorite art teacher" so, that was... nice? I'm choosing to take it as a complement.

When I got home, fiance had classmates over. They worked on homework, I stayed in the bedroom.

Sunday, we went to my parents' house to for lunch to celebrate my mom's birthday. My grandparents came, and my brother was home from college for October break, so it was great to see everyone. I printed out pictures of flowers I like for my mom, in case the florists want to make appointments for times I can't see them (my parents' live very close to where we're getting married, FI and I live about an hour away, and my mom has been working from home lately.)

And we bought ties for FI and the groomsmen! These: http://www.josbank.com/menswear/shop/Product_11001_10050_102706  FI will wear a grey suit, the groomsmen will wear grey pants and a navy blazer.

We also bought FI a solid navy tie, in case he decides to look different from the others. I originally wanted peach ties for the groomsmen and a light blue/ navy/ peach tie for FI... but that seemed hard to find in stores. And my mom said light pink flowers will be easier to get anyway (the bouquets I liked either featured light pink or peach flowers.) So, another thing checked off the list. Woo!

    Now, time for lunch!
  • @bethsmiles What are you eating and drinking before your workouts? Intense nausea is NOT FUN.

@lilacck28 Remind me to take pictures today! It helps that my future father-in-law used to work at Home Depot and has experience with all sorts of handy work and construction; I'm not sure we'd be able to build this on our own.

We've got a bunch of 1-inch PVC piping, as well as the appropriate joints for the frame. There are online tutorials to make the base stand up on its own, but we didn't like any of them. So my father-in-law cut out some discs from plywood for the "feet," and he put a flange in each one, which will screw into each of the PVC legs. Then we're buying fabric for the top, and some fabric to sort of drape over each of the legs.

Definitely will try to take photos today. Honestly, if it weren't for the size of our indoor venue, we'd just do what my brother did, which is just have 4 wooden poles with fabric tied to each and then ask 4 people to hold the darn thing up!

  • @Phira - I keep trying different things for breakfast! I've tried eating a small breakfast and eating a big breakfast. I've tried doing just fruit. I've tried just toast. I've tried egg whites. Ugh...it's so frustrating! And I usually only drink water beforehand, sometimes a cup of coffee. The coffee actually does seem to help a bit but I didn't make any this morning so I feel a little worse than usual. I've also been getting up earlier so I can eat 1.5-2 hours before going to the gym.

  • This weekend was awesome! Friday night after work H and I dropped Maddux off at my parent's house for the weekend and we had chinese with them before we left.

Saturday morning we got the tailgate ready for the Clemson/Louisville game. It was super close but Clemson won yay! We tailgated for the rest of the night until traffic died down. H and I crashed when we got back. Sunday we had a big lunch with some of his family and then made our way back to Georgia.

Once we got back we picked up Maddux and had dinner with my parents again. We watched the Falcon's suck it up and then went home.

Tonight I really really need to get some cleaning done and some grocery shopping after crossfit.

I had a pretty relaxed weekend.

On Friday we had our date night which was wonnnnnnnnnnnnnnderful.  We stayed in, I made our favorite dinner, we drank wine, and watched The Silence of the Lambs and The Wolfman.  It was a perfect night.

On Saturday we had a day date!! We never have day dates so it was really, really nice.  The weather was perfect so we decided to drive to a town about 15 minutes away and walk their downtown square and look at all their neat little shops.  After we were done window shopping we had lunch at one of H's favorite pubs.  We stayed in Saturday night and snuggled on the couch while watching Supernatural on Netflix.

Sunday H was busy most of the day.  He played the 3 morning services at church. As soon as he got home my dad came over and took us out for lunch, which was nice.  Then we came home, let our dog out, and headed out to the church again for a new evening service geared towards the younger adults.  H plays in the worship band and they didnt have anyone to run sound, so since I was there early with H so he could practice, they asked me to run sound.  I had never done it before and they tried to teach me in 5 minutes...but it actually sounded fine and they asked if they could start booking me to run sound. It was pretty fun :)

@lapeanut1018 - FIVE MORE DAYS!!! Holy cow, it's almost here! I cannot wait to see all the pictures from your beautiful day! You're going to have so much fun!

@southernpeach89 - how are you holding up?

    @peaseblossom55 - cancer sucks ass.

    My weekend was insanely busy.

Friday I went down to my mom's house and packed up all of my childhood things and moved them to the attic, along with boxes of my dad's and grandpa's stuff. It was much more fun and a lot less painful than I was expecting.

Saturday was insane. I was up at 7 for a work meeting, then came home to turn around and go apartment hunting. H and I got into a huge fight driving around, but we worked out a lot of things. After apartment hunting and an almost-incident with a garage door, we went over to our friend's apartment to watch the UH game. It sucked, but we won. We then drove the 32 mile drive home, but the freeway was shut down. As we're sitting in traffic for an extra hour, H and I worked out even more things (ei: Boston is back on the table, @goldenpenguin, @csousa1, @swazzle, @hummingbird125). I got home and crashed.

Sunday was work as usual. I had a parent meeting in the evening over our new sexuality course that we're starting in the Spring. I had wonderful conversations with the three parents that showed up and it really made me love my job again, if only for a day.

Today, I was awoken by thunder and tornado warnings. Our power went out and my dogs were losing their minds. I did, however, discover that our hot water will last in the shower for 7 whole minutes.

And here I am, sitting at my desk in soaking wet jeans and avoiding writing my budget for next year. I've got an orchestra concert tonight for the kiddos, which should be fun.

  • @eilis1228 TEAM LUKE.

But I did like Chris. I just liked Luke more.
  • @lilacck28 Ohhh I like those ties! I've always been Team Chris. They were always so good together. I like to forget about the last 2 seasons in regards to both Luke and Chris though. The writers went a little nuts. @audrewuh, the last season of Gilmore Girls aired when the WB became the CW, and the head writer couldn't negotiate a deal with the network execs, so she left. As a result, the last season is just terrible, and the season before that one was a little "meh" too. I like to pretend they never happened.

  • @ellis1228 - I didn't know this was a thing! I've only seen one episode with Chris and I really, really, really don't like him. I think he's a skeezball. I also am at the point where Loralai and Max are kinda sorta almost engaged? Idk, I think two proposals from two different guys within episodes of each other is super lame. And I hate the yo-yo circumstances between Loralai and Luke. It doesn't feel organic enough, although it does remind me of Ross and Rachel.
