Laying out escort cards.

This may be a silly question, but another thread got me thinking and now I need clarification.

When laying out the escort cards on the table at the reception... you do it alphabetically, correct? So even if John Smith brings his girlfriend Mary Jones, their escort cards would NOT be located together? Or if Mary Jones-Smith comes with her husband John Smith, would hers still go with the J's or be put with his? Ah! Just want to clarify before I kill myself alphabetizing them...

  • We laid them out alphabetically, so yeah, dates were separated on the escort card table but as far as I know nobody had any problems. I put married couples on the same card though.

I'd just do everyone alphabetically, even the married couples with different last names.

I'm torn about this... putting couples on the same card vs. giving everyone an individual escort card.

  • @tcnoble I did it because I printed the escort cards myself (4 escort cards per sheet) and didn't want to go buy another package of cardstock (I needed most of it for the programs (a waste) and menus). It just cut down on the total number of escort cards I actually had to print. I'm not sure if there's etiquette behind putting couples together on an escort card versus giving them their own. My sister printed out individual cards for everyone at her wedding. I think you can go either way and it isn't really going to matter.
