Honeymoon Suggestions instead of Hawaii?

Hi,
We are planning to do a 10 day-ish Honeymoon. We originally wanted to do hawaii but we are hoping to not spend so much. Does anyone have suggestions for a good 10 day honeymoon. Perhaps the ability to island hop or a nice destination area since i think ten days would be too long at one place. I am not sure if i want to do bahamas or that area since it is easier to go for a few days there..

Thanks!.

There are plenty of cruises that will give you multiple destinations at a bargain price.  Read my sticky at the top of this board about cruises.  I would recommend am Eastern Caribbean cruise.  St. Lucia is a lot like Hawaii.
What time of year are you going, and what is your budget?  This makes a huge difference in cost and desirable locations!

  • Where are you traveling from? That will make a big difference on airfare costs, which can be a big part of travel. West Coast, flights to Hawaii are pretty inexpensive, but East Coast- I would definitely look to the Caribbean for cost savings. A lot of the islands down there have good exchange rates too which can help with cost. I also wouldn't rule out Cancun. There's a lot to do there so you won't get bored, you can go see the Mayan ruins, or just hang out on the beach.

  • If you want to island hop, the easiest place to do it in the Caribbean is probably the US Virgin Islands. Fly into St. Thomas, you can take the ferry to St. John and St. Croix. You can also take the ferry to several islands from St. Martin, but St. Bart's etc are very expensive.

  • Thank you so much for your advice. We are leaving from NY in January.
  • What is your budget?
  • Cruises are well priced in January.  I assume you are talking about January 2016?  If so, then it is too early to book a cruise at a good price.  These are current promotions for 2015, and it is bargain basement season to fill up those ships!  You must register on thios website to use it, but no one will bother you.  I use them all the time.

  • If you have a Costco membership check out Costco travel. I booked a 7 day all inclusive in Punta Cana DR at the Colonial Majestic, upgraded us to a swim up suite in the adults only section and it was a blast.. did it for FI's grad gift and never got tired of being in one place.. cost with air, tax, gratuity for the all inclusive was $3300 for both from the west coast so would be less I think for you?

  • I would also recommend a cruise but I would recommend leaving from San Juan and going to the Southern Caribbean.  This is what we did for our honeymoon.  We flew down two days early and enjoyed time in San Juan before boarding our 7 night cruise where we went to St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados.  It was great to see so many islands at once.  We're doing another cruise this October that's also the Southern Caribbean also leaving from San Juan and going to St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Aruba and Curacao.  Many people rave about the Southern Caribbean!
  • We went to Jamaica for 10 days, perfect amount of time, amazing and reasonably priced.  We are not sit on the beach the whole time people so we did alot of exploring!
  • Puerto Rico was very nice and you can take a ferry to the Dominican Republic. Good luck and have fun!
