Food choices in response cards -- necessary?

Hi all --

I was curious because we're running a tad bit behind schedule regarding our food tasting and our invitations-- but in response cards, is it absolutely necessary for people to choose whether they want beef or chicken?  Or is that dependent upon what's required from the vendor providing the food (in my case, the hotel)?  I've been trying to put us on a timeline but events beyond our control (and a tad bit of vendor and FI laziness) is pushing it back a bit.  Just wanted to get your thoughts.

  • Unless you're having a buffet or stations, your venue will probably require a count. Further, they'll probably ask you to indicate what people ordered on each person's escort card so that their waiters and deliver the right thing to the right person.

So yes, you should list this on your RSVP card and ask guests to initial by their choice so you know who ordered what.

  • @southernbelle0915 Roger that!  Sorry if it was a dumb question -- just trying to make sure I wasn't over-complicating a step (as I tend to do).  :)
  • Depends on the venue/vendor. Mine only requires a headcount and then people can make their choices tableside.
  • It all depends on how the food is being set up. Buffet, family style, or sit down. The first two won't require anything special in your invite, but sit down where the guest only gets the choice of one of the two meats, you need to include that in your invite.

Not necessarily, some venues have table side ordering.  Although a lot ask for choice ahead of time.

Like others said, it depends on the style and/or the venue.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • My venue has table side ordering, as well as most of the venues where I live. I would ask your vendor!
