Are You Procrastinating?

Any October 2015 brides procrastinating on a planning task right now? If so, what? Why?

I did nothing for about 4 weeks but today I final made small steps on my Sola flowers and contacting bakers.

Rings? Still up in the air....

Re: Are You Procrastinating?

  • I'm taking a hiatus from planning until springtime. We have most of the major details worked out (date, venue/caterer, photographer, dress, bridesmaids, groomsmen, Save the Dates, most likely a DJ), but I was starting to drive my FI crazy with all my questions and pictures and whatnot... lol! :)
  • Oh Jesus yes. We don't have jack shit planned yet. I think we have a pretty firm officiant, but I don't know where we're getting married, I don't know where we're having the reception, I don't know where the food is coming from. I don't know what the alcohol plan even is. I haven't even thought about lesser details like music or decor or stationery. I have a dress (rather unexpectedly) and that's it.

  • Yes. I have been doing nothing but procrastinating.  I did nothing for the past 4 weeks either, though my excuse was that I was in a really busy rotation at the hospital. That rotation was over a week ago and I'm still using that excuse, haha.  At this point I have a venue/caterer, and my dress. Yikes, I'm stressed... I guess I should start emailing photographers or florists or something...
  • Good luck ladies!  I hope you're back into the swing of things soon!

Since my posting I've made good progress with bakeries- sort of.

I set up 2 appointments, both confirmed.  One place emailed last night to say they double booked- not a good sign- and could we come earlier or later. Um no.  So we'll see if I even go to meet with them.  Third place got back to me over the weekend, but I haven't responded yet just because, well, I haven't.

Flowers are ordered and that was pretty easy.

  • I am not procrastinating at all. But I'm prob being a little psycho. I want to get so much done, but my mom is helping me focus on specific tasks one at a time so that I can focus my attention. I just found my dress (!!!!!!!) and am now looking for shoes and accessories. We are doing food tastings with our venue as well. I keep telling my FI that if he (or anyone else for that matter) tells me "you've got time" I will go apesh!t. Hahaha soon, procrastinating? Not so much.
  • I still have quite a bit to do, but I don't feel like I'm procrastinating.. I've got a lot figured out (venue, food, alcohol, dress, shoes, photographer, hotel, rehearsal dinner). Honeymoon is decided on and just needs to be booked.

I still need to hire a DJ (although I already know who I'm going to hire, just need to have a meeting and give a deposit) and cake. No idea what I want to do with cake.. cupcakes maybe!  Flowers too, but I'm only doing bouquets, not floral centerpieces so I'm not stressed about that. Haven't even thought about rings.

BM dresses are up next on my list right now.. Finally have a direction but I've gotta pick once and for all.
  • @morgpie I hear you with the "we've got time" stuff. It drove me nuts the first time he said it. I was like "Do you understand. How much. WE HAVE TO DO?!?!?!" I don't think he understood how quickly some things book up. But now that we have all the major details figured out, I take his "we've got time" comments as a gentle reminder not to step into "bridezilla" mode, which I'm afraid will happen if I get too wrapped up in planning. On some days, it takes over my life and I forget to enjoy life right now rather than focusing on planning this perfect future.

Such a good reminder.  I have to take a step back an look at what's good right now and to enjoy life right now.  Tomorrow isn't guaranteed, so putting everything else on hold for a day that's not even here yet means you can miss out on the good things right in front of you!
  • I was doing so well. I booked all the bigger stuff (venue, ceremony, photographer, cake, music, wedding coordinator) and went to try on wedding dresses. But now I've been putting it off again with the excuse that I am busy with school and work.
I also need to look for a florist, but I'm nervous about actually finalizing my wedding colors when I do this.

Woooo hooo!  A lot of progress made this weekend.

We taste tested two bakers and we know which we're going with.  We chose cake flavors, a general design and we just have to make a few decisions in order to "finalize" that project.

We also bought a cricket box to hold our rings in for the ceremony from a store just down the street from us.

We also went to look at wedding rings too.  Nothing bought / decided, but at least we went to look.

    Keep going ladies!

ETF:  Removal of photo link- it's not working for some reason.
  • I was ON TOP OF IT until about January, and now I've completely fallen off the wagon!  I have the venue with food/beverage, Save the Date's, invites, wedding party, second line band (New Orleans thing), photographer, and a few other minor things, but that's it.  No dress, so I'm starting to think I realllly need to get on the ball with that one!  Eeesh!

    Good luck, everyone!
  • I think I've been engaged too long (it will be a year on 3/2), because I'm so sick of planning this thing; I just want to be married already! We have all the major things (venue, caterer, photographer, dj, dress) but my mom keeps asking me about making an appointment to the see the florist and we keep saying we should go but never actually scheduling a time.
  • Like most everyone else, I'm in the calm before the storm planning-wise. I've got all the big stuff done (venue, DJ, photographer, caterer, officiant, dress, BM dresses, STDs, hair and makeup, shoes, photo booth), so I'm taking a break for a little while. I'll probably start looking at bakers in the next month or so, and FI and I will finalize the guest list in the next few weeks as well. We've booked part of our honeymoon and plan to keep an eye out for sales to book the rest of it (we're doing 10 days in Orlando-- 3 at Universal and 7 at Disney.. we booked the Disney portion a few weeks ago). My dress should come in sometime soon, so I'll need to go try that on and figure out alterations too. Right now we're in a good place with the planning, so I don't feel guilty at all for taking a month or two off to chill.

I don't know if I'm sick of it, but honestly, the more time goes by, the more all of it seems a little... trivial.  Does it REALLY matter what kind of flowers I have?  Does it REALLY matter what color my shoes are?

I'm still having fun, but the decisions almost seem to be easier to make because I'm realizing they're just frosting.  I'm not agonizing over little things.  And if I feel I'm starting to get "stuck" on something I've been walking away from it.

Cake is a good example. We chose a baker this weekend, and we have the option of a half fake (display) cake to save costs or to do the whole thing in real cake.  I found myself weighing the pros and cons and to be honest, the half fake/display cake only saves us about $115.  In today's world that's not chump change, but I've decided to just not decide right now- there's plenty of time.

Work is a shit storm.  Focusing on that (except when I'm Knotting) and not stuff that doesn't matter.  Guests will have cake; don't think they care if it's from the cake on display or a sheet cake in the back.

That might be a better way to put it, actually! The only thing I get stuck on lately is etiquette stuff, like making sure the STDs were addressed correctly and tinkering with the invite wording. Everything else, I know what I like and it seems silly to agonize between choices when most choices are good. I feel like I can't even look at Pinterest anymore, it's all just a big blur of "that's nice, that's nice, that's nice, that's nice"
  • I took a break from October to January, and procrastinated most of january.. but we had most major stuff planned..  this month am getting alot done even with the weather we have been having. got the dress, and tuxes picked out, my hair stylist, a baker, a photographer.. now it is just a limo and we have all the vendors we need.. o and makeup :/.

  • Oy vey.  We have actually a lot done but we have to pick out men's attire, Fiance's ring, and we also REALLY need to meet with our pastor for counseling and to figure out what time the wedding is.
  • I am ordering my ring tomorrow!  I looked at rings a few weekends ago; I didn't want to spend more than $500, so I was directed to the consignment section.  I found one I liked, but it was top of the budget, not "unique," etc.  It would do the job.

But I found a company called Brent & Jess that does fingerprint rings so I decided to order from them.  Recycled gold (important to me), and I get my fiance's finger print wrapped around the inside of the band.  Also handcrafted and made in the USA which is also important to me.  And just a bit over $400!  Under budget AND unique!

    Yay!
  • @FeeleyToBe that is an awesome idea for the ring!

I have been dragging my feet still.  Desperately in need of a dress! =/
  • We got engaged a year ago and everyone kept saying we had SO MUCH TIMEEEE and now here we are, a year later, and everyone is like "I hope you're getting it all done!". Back off people!

  • I sent out my sad the dates last week!! It has been really fun getting messages from loved ones and friends telling us how excited they are and how much they loved our save the dates. Its happening real fast and I have so much to do still!! But that at least is one less thing.

going apeshit-I love it. Everytime someone makes a comment about me "having it all together and you need to relax" I lose it! I don't think anyone who is not planning a wedding realizes how much goes in to it!

Thanks. Good luck with the dress. I procrastinated on that for a month but it worked out. The dress I chose was part of a new fall collection and had been delivered to my bridal boutique only 4 days before my session! Found my dress on the first and only trip because I procrastinated!

  • Some days I feel like we have a lot done, other days I'm like OMG I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING! But we have done: ceremony & reception venue, my dress is in, caterer & booze, photographer, planner, baker, honeymoon planned and (mostly) booked, officiant booked, hotel blocks made... currently working on: shopping for BM dresses, writing vows/ceremony with officiant, and shopping for DJ's/entertainment, and just waiting for the weather to get to get nice so that we can do our engagement photos (hopefully in the next 3 weeks or so), then we can send out STD's (since we want our pics on them).

Question - my checklist says that we should have done our registries like 6 months ago but we still haven't.... has everyone done this already? I don't think we're even having a shower (I live across the country from "home" and the wedding is destination)... just curious!
  • edited March 2015
@LindsayNieb we put our registry up right before we sent STDs, since our wedding website was listed on the STD and we listed the places we're registered on the website.  From what I can see, not a damn thing has been purchased by anyone yet.  I think you have time.

I find that people buy gifts pretty close to when they're attending an event.  So unless you're having an e-party or couples shower, people will probably stop in about 5-6 months before the wedding (some much later than that) and look at what's on your registry.

  • We've been engaged since October 2013, so we've been planning for a while (and had SO many people do the "You have so much time!!!!!!!!!" thing, ugh).  Got a lot of the big stuff done last year, so I was seriously procrastinating from like Thanksgiving to February.  I've slowly gotten back into get-shit-done mode because HOLY S, we are almost at the 6 month mark!

Still need to decide on an officiant (eek), get FI's ring, order groomsman attire, figure out transportation, and a bunch of little decor/aesthetic-type things.

I dropped our STDs in the mail today and was simultaneously super excited and kind of anxious... like OMG IT'S HAPPENING anxious.  Anyone else?

  • I personally am procrastinating on getting in shape and sticking to a true beauty routine. For better or worse (pun intended, ha!), I've been blessed with a slimmer body type, which has for the most part made exercise less of a requirement throughout the years. That said, I definitely have some belly fat that would be nice to lose, it's just been hard for me to get the motivation. The fiancé definitely wants us to start a routine soon...
