LOL my meeting story is long and funny (to me)

BF and I met on our first day of living in the dorms at college. I was from VA so I moved in a week early to go to orientation before classes started, and he forgot to register even though he lived 20 minutes away so that's why he also moved in early. I had two other suitemates from different states move in the same day so we were getting to know each other and we decided to get to know EVERYONE who moved in to our building early. Our dorm alternated between boys and girls, so we had girls on the 6th floor, boys on the 5th, and so on. I lived on the second. Anyway, me and my suitemates went to the top floor, knocked on every door, and eventually we had about 10-15 girls in our group. We moved on to the 5th floor, where BF lived. He and his roommate R were the only two who moved in, and they were talking to their RA with the door open when I led my 15 new girlfriends down the hall and totally bombarded them with introductions so he forgot about me quickly. I knew I needed to get to know him right away. It was instantaneous.

 Over the next week I ditched orientation and kept running into him, where I would call him over, he would apologize for not remembering my name, and then he would ask me if i went to so-and-so event and I would say no lol. We would hang out with our friends for the rest of the night and repeat the process the next day for over a week. Finally I got tired of reintroducing myself every time I saw him so I was about to give up but then my roommate called me about a hot guy in the lobby of our building. I finally exchanged numbers with BF and from then on he remembered my name.

One night me, him, and our group of friends decided we wanted to sleep on the big, gorgeous lawn outside the library (why? i do not know) and we shared a blanket. I was practically THROWING myself at him and he acted totally uninterested. I was getting frustrated and then the sprinklers went off, giving me a chance to get away from him. In our haste to get our stuff off the grass and back to our rooms, I left my purse on the lawn. I realized more than halfway back and turned around and ran to get it before it was gone forever. He followed me, helped me find it, and we walked back together. I left my stuff in the dorm and we hung out for a bit before I rode up the elevator with him up to his room where he... kissed the top of my head goodnight.

AND THEN one day we took the subway to Manhattan (we were in Queens) and thats where we had our first kiss and I met his best friend. We and our friends ate pizza at night in Central Park (dangerous idea, 10/10 do not recommend!) Less than two weeks into the school year we were a couple and we've been together ever since. Our 6th anniversary is in September.

I went to a very nerdy well known engineering university. There were not many girls that attended (and fewer who were engineers; there were other majors, but the college was known for engineering/science mostly). I stood out a LOT in my electrical engineering classes with my blonde hair. 

Disclaimer: I am going to tell this from both my side and my FI's perspective:

My side of the story: My sophomore year (in 2010), I had a programming class where I was one of 3 girls in a class of 60. One day, I had gotten there about 10 minutes early. Two guys came over and sat down next to me. The one sitting closest to me said something sarcastic but witty about the professor, and I gave him a witty response back (this was FI). There was an instant connection. We continued hanging out that semester and started doing our programming homework together. We would pass our laptops to each other to double check the code. We both got A's that semester and remained friends, became lab partners for another class next semester, became FWB during that semester, and finally became official about a year later. 

FI's side (that he told me after we started dating): FI and his friend walked into that programming class, and his friend bet FI a case of beer that he "wouldn't go sit down next to the pretty blonde". FI took him up on that bet. FI and his friend had transferred from a community college, and FI had previously taken and aced a course in the programming language that our class was in, but his credits didn't transfer. He purposely made mistakes in his homework so that he could spend more time with me "doing homework and checking each other's mistakes". Sneaky little jerk pulling a Mean Girls move! Haha I love him anyways though. 

We survived a cross country move in 2013 and ended up moving in together. He proposed in December 2014, and we are getting married in July 2015.

I love threads like these! Long story up ahead.

I was visiting a close friend at her university and we decided to attend a hockey game at her rival school. My friend and I were seated close to the penalty box and one of the rival players (FI) got two minutes for hooking. He and I kept making eye contact and smiling. He took a white board marker wrote his number down and pointed at me before getting back on the ice. My friend told me not to date guys from this university because they were "trash."

FIs team won the game, and I texted to congratulate him. He invited my friend and I to their victory party, where FI and I talked for hours. It was getting super late abc I started to look around for my friend, I texted her, called no response. She was my ride and accommodations for the night...FI states he saw her and another teammate leave together. Because of this, I had no place to stay. He invites me to his dorm. I tell him I'm not sleeping with him, he tells me not to flatter myself and that he was sleeping on the couch.


I met up with my friend the next morning she was fine and had a fun night herself. I don't hear from FI for four months, and I decided to sign up for Okcupid. One day his profile popped up on mine so I messaged him saying that I would like to take him out for providing me with a place to sleep. Two weeks of back and forth we finally met at grand central station where I found him sitting on the floor. I went to playfully nudge him with my foot and ended up kicking him in the shin. Despite our rocky start, we grew together and I felt six months into our relationship that he was "the one". Two years later he proposed and we now have a son together!

I know I am late to this post, but I've been offline for a few days, and I just spent my Friday night reading through everything I missed, and now I'm feeling sappy and so I have to share...

What we tell people: "We met at work."

What really happened: I took his class.  I was a PhD student; he was a prof in my department, and I enrolled in one of his grad seminars my second semester in the program.  One of my friends had recommended him, and the class was in my minor field, so I took it hoping to eventually add him to my PhD committee.  Because I had two classes in a row, and his was the second, I ended up being slightly later than normal (I have this thing where I need to be 15 minutes early everywhere), and so the only seat left in the classroom was in the very front, about 2 seats away from him at the conference table.  So I sat there, and we just clicked.  At first it was an intellectual friendship--we were interested in the same sorts of things, enjoyed the same kinds of books, were both academics, etc.  It was one of those great seminars where everybody just clicks, and a bunch of us started going to the pub for drinks after class.  One night I realized that I was hitting on him, but, I didn't really think anything of it.  I'm very extroverted, and had a reputation as a bit of a flirt, but we were both in serious relationships at the time and ignored anything we might have felt for each other.

Then we traveled overseas together (there were 10 other people involved too).  He was the faculty sponsor on a travel course to someplace I had always wanted to go, and somehow I pulled the money together and made it happen.  I think both of us would agree that our friendship really solidified while we were there.  I became "the money girl"--none of the restaurants where we went to would split a check, so I volunteered to make sure everybody was paying their share...something he hated doing and so was glad to pass off to me.  We spent a lot of time on that trip getting to know each other, drinking wine and talking on the beach until really early in the morning.  At one point, I swung into a pretty deep depression (I know I've mentioned this before, but I have bipolar disorder, so my mood swings are pretty frequent and sometimes really vicious).  He had no idea what to do to help me, but he didn't leave my side until he knew I was feeling better...and at one point he bought me a cookie.

It still took a while for us to get together.  We were really good friends, but things were complicated for a while by the fact that we were both seeing other people, that we were still in the same department, and then by the fact that he left the department under pretty bad terms (not his fault; my department very slowly began to implode and continues to do so), but from the minute he reached out to me and bought me that cookie, he's had my heart completely.  He says he's loved me since the minute I sat down in his classroom.

It's funny too, because I always wondered whether or not I would be one of those grad students who fell in love with one of her profs.  I actually had a dream while I was in his class that we were dating...it was the weirdest thing at the time, but now I think back on it and smile.

A little back story...In Summer 2011 I got my first iPhone and it was my first cool phone since I had a flip phone before it....I downloaded tons of apps and met Cory on one! Cory had planned to cancel his account the day I messaged him *Thank goodness he didn't!*

Cory and I met on Skout.com which is an iPhone dating app that tells you singles nearby...However it told me Cory was nearby and he was actually almost 2 hours away...I saw his pictures and was in love because he was cute, worked out, and most importantly he plays hockey! I messaged him first *he says he did* and after 2 days of talking on the app I gave him my number. We talked all day for another day in text and on the phone *I loved his voice* and he asked me to lunch but I made him come to me. I was so nervous waiting for him to walk up and when he did I was so happy and relieved. I moved in with him a week later and the rest is history.

Wow these are all so sweet! Mine is not anything too exciting. We met in HS, I was friends with his cousin and went on a date with him (cousin). It didn't really work out, but I was still friends with them, and eventually SO won tickets to a hockey game (or actually his mom did, and gave them to him), and he asked me to go. That was 9+ years ago!

So my bf and I have known each other since grade school. We were friendly with each other but never really became friends. In high school we both started relationships with not so great people (took both of us 5 years to realize that).

After college I spent two years living in Massachusetts.  I came home about once a month because I was homesick.  One night I was out at the local bars with a bunch of my girlfriends and I bumped into a bunch of people from high school.  My bf was one of the people in that group.  We ended up standing outside the bar talking for two hours.  We exchanged phone numbers and he told me to let him know the next time I was home.  A month later I went out to the local bars on a mission to find him.  He found me, and again we spent two hours, standing around talking. The next day we went on our first date, realized we had the same bad dating experiences and since I still lived in Massachusetts decided to take it slow.  That lasted maybe a day, because we talked every single day and spent every second possible together when I came home.

My FH and I met at work in March 2012. He actually got hired to replace me because I was moving to a different department. I had seen him across the store a few times and my friends had mentioned him, but I hadn't met him. Well, I'm a NOSY person, and I saw one of my best friends talking to him, so I went over to be introduced. He smiled at me and I damn near hit the floor. I was in the process of trying to get back with my ex at that point (HUGE mistake, glad it didn't go anywhere) so we just became friends. We talked each other through a whole lot of issues and became very, very close. Well, on Halloween 2012, a group of friends and I went to his apartment and hung out, and I never left.

We've been together almost 3 years now :-)

My boyfriend and I met on OkCupid February of 2013. I had just gotten off from work and was headed home. I saw his profile and thought he was cute. He lived out of state (he was in Tennessee and I was in New Orleans) so I knew that if I didn't message him right then and there I'd never see his profile again. So I pulled over and read through his profile and messaged him. From there we began talking everyday. We started officially dating March 21st and then we met in person April 9th. After a little over a year of dating long distance he moved to Louisiana to be with me. Around Thanksgiving last year he moved back to Tennessee for a better paying job. After I graduated in December I moved here to be with him. He is my best friend and even though he annoys me all of the time I love him to pieces. He is my soulmate.
