  • France has a pretty strict residency requirement, so destination weddings there are not very common. In addition, if you can meet the residency requirements, you must have a separate civil and religious ceremony. In my opinion, it is not worth the hassle to marry there unless you are having a private wedding or elopement, so your plans do not affect anyone else.

  • Do you or your FI hold EU citizenship? Do you have the residency requirements? These are things you need to look into before you consider a destination wedding abroad.
  • If you google "destination wedding paris" or "france marriage requirements", dozens of sites outlining the requirements come up.  Religious ceremonies are not legally recognized.  At least one half of the couple must be a legal resident for 40 days in the district you're marrying and prove residency by showing two utility bills in your name.  The ceremony can only take place at city hall.  All of your documents have have an apostille and be translated into French.
