To bowtie, or not to bowtie? That is my question. Are there hard and fast rules, or simply "guidelines"? We're already doing a bit of a mismatched groomsman thing, but wasn't sure if tie variations should be on the table or if we should stick to all bowties or all neckties.

I have the same question!  My FI and the groomsmen will be wearing tuxs, but my FI isn't a huge fan of bowties.  I'd personally prefer a bowtie since it's a little more traditional with a tux, but the decision is up to him.  Are there any rules around bowtie vs. necktie when wearing a tux?  Also, to what extent (and in what ways) can a groom's tux vary from the rest of the groomsmen?

Should the groom match or be different from the groomsmen. FH decided to be different! Groomsmen wearing grey and he is wearing navy. All in bowties.
