Good morning friends! We had an extra long weekend and it was such a great weekend! We were crazy busy but it was great! How was your weekend?

Thursday night was pretty chill, I went to CrossFit to train just a tiny bit more before my competition and then we went home and had chili.

Friday I woke up bright and early and took Maddux to the vet for his check-up, he went insane as usual and I looked a hot mess. After that I rushed home and cleaned and put together our new bed frame for our guest bedroom! We LOVE how it looks with everything else in the room.

Afterwards we began our search for our new vehicle. We spent most of our day doing this and didn't have any luck until we went to the very last dealer and we found two cars that we are interested in. We only had time to test drive one and today DH is going there to test drive the other and have our mechanic check them out to be sure they are in good condition. So it's between a Lincoln Navigator and a Honda Pilot. I like the Honda Pilot more but it has more miles on it than the Navigator but the Navigator is older so we will see what our mechanic comes back with. After that we went and picked up Callie and had leftover chili.

Saturday morning was my very first CrossFit competition. I was having all the adrenaline and it reminded me of my old cheerleading competitions and how pumped I used to get. We improved after each workout. There were three total workouts and after the first we were in 5th, after the second we moved to 4th, and then after the last workout we finished in 3rd place in our division out of 9 teams. We were super excited and I was so proud of our team. It was a lot of fun and I'm definitely going to do it again. Here is our team and our cheerleaders lol:

That night DH and I went out to dinner at Ruth's Chris steakhouse while my parents babysat Callie. It was so late and I was so tired but the food was excellent. We had steak, lobster mac n cheese, and brussel sprouts! So good!

Sunday I woke up early to find DH had all my Valentine's gifts waiting for me. He is seriously the best. He got me my alma mater license plate frame and my monogrammed license plate for the front of my new van. Then he got me chocolates, ice cream, and champagne...I'm a fatty. He also got Callie and I both roses. I got him a new robe and his favorite candy. I made cinnamon rolls and mimosas and gave Callie her little gifts. It was a great day together!

Today DH is doing all the car stuff and I'm working from home. Tonight is the Bachelor and possibly crossfit! Also....I decorated for St. Patrick's Day because I'm crazy:

@southernpeach89 - I am in love with your St. Patrick's Day decorations! Savannah apparently has an epic St. Patrick's Day, but I will be coming back from a conference that day and so will probably miss it.

Also, congrats on your CrossFit competition! I think it's so awesome how you've gotten back into the swing of things since Callie has been born! I actually told my sister about you...she's gained more weight with this pregnancy than her last one and she is feeling pretty miserable about it, so I told her I knew this girl online who is a CrossFit boss and that all she needs to do is find something she likes doing for exercise.

I've been MIA for the last week...not really sure why, really. Hiding in my little depressed hermit hole, maybe. Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday, but BF and I have to spend it apart, so maybe that was part of it. It was great anyway, though: he sent me a book, chocolate-covered strawberries, and 2 dozen red roses, plus he called yesterday! I sent him a bunch of stereotypical American Valentine's kitsch, plus a photo book I made on Shutterfly of all our pictures from Istanbul. Plus last night my nephew called. It was so nice to hear him say, "Happy Birthday Valentine's Day, Aunt Mary AND SMUDGE!!!!" (Of course, Smudge is the one he really wanted to talk to, but dogs aren't so good at talking on the phone.)

Last week was fairly uneventful, except for one other thing: I'm going to Dubai next week! BF gets a 5-day leave that happens to fall at a really good time for me to take a long weekend, so we bought me a ticket. I leave Wednesday and come back the next Monday. It will be a whirlwind, but to be perfectly honest: I don't care. I realized that I've seen him approximately 3 weeks out of the last year, and tickets were surprisingly cheap. So, off I go! This week will be full of trying to get things together before I leave.

Edited because Valentine's Day =/= my birthday.

@southernpeach89 I hope one of those cars checks out! I LOVE Callie's Valentine's Day photos! She is seriously the cutest! Not that I am biased or anything. I can't wait to babysit her this weekend. Also, congrats on placing 3rd! YOU ROCK and you deserve ALL the ice cream!!

I wish my weekend was as exciting. On Friday we had a Home Depot date night. H and I wandered all over HD and checked prices on the stuff I had picked out for the bathroom. We ended up finding other things we liked better for even less money so yay cost savings!!! I'm gonna go ahead and AW a few things here.
This will be the shower tile (Santa Barbara Pacific Sand Blend)

The granite for the countertop MAY be this. We're still price shopping here but I think this is the pattern and color I want to stick close to.

All the metal pieces (faucets, handles, etc.) will be in an oil rubbed bronze. I haven't picked a final paint color yet but I'm thinking something like in this photo.

I can't wait to get started you guys! Now we just have to start watching all the sales and wait for this stuff to get marked down so we can get it at an even cheaper cost.

I pretty much spent Saturday and Sunday running errands and cleaning the house. H and I had a quiet Valentine's Day. He made me breakfast burritos and we spent Sunday evening watching movies and snuggling in front of the fireplace.

@southernpeach89 Man, as usual I can't see any of your pics. But it sounds like you had an awesome weekend, love your V-day gifts! and way to kick ass at the competition for your first one!

My weekend was great. Saturday H called out of work and we went on our date to Cheesecake factory, I got the Oreo one and it was amazing! I ate the leftovers over 3 separate servings. After we ate, H wanted to peruse the mall. He steered me into Coach where he told me to look at wallets since I don't own one, never have. (I just carry my stack of cards banded together). I found one I loved and he grabbed it from my hand and bought it before I could even see the price, because I'm a cheapskate and would never buy something like that for myself lol. His wallet is 10 years old so he got himself a new one too.

Then Sunday we went to see Deadpool- SO good! And I bought a blender at Walmart yesterday so this smoothie in my hand is amazing, even if it is negative 1 outside!

@futuremrshistorian Aw thank you! I've heard about Savannah's St. Patrick's Day celebration. Apparently it's quite insane lol. I've never been myself. Tell your sister she is doing great! It sucks to gain all that weight but if she is wanting to do some exercise walking and squats are the best and small weight exercises are great too. When is she due?

@labro All those choices look great! I know it's going to look so good! I can't wait to see everything coming together! Are you planning on doing this yourselves?

@southernpeach89 Yes....I think we're most definitely insane although most of it should be easy enough. Depending on what we find when we start tearing out the old tile, and the walls of the shower, we may hire a plumber to come do some work but otherwise we'll do the majority of it ourselves. Bathroom remodels like what we're planning can cost $10k with all the labor and right now I'm estimating this will cost us less than $3k right now.

@labro - Haha, yeah, by "cheap," I mean less than $900. I think we paid $930 with travel insurance. Not bad for an international flight two weeks in advance!

@futuremrshistorian Those are great gifts you sent each other, love the shutterfly of Istanbul! Wow Dubai, I've always wanted to go there, looks amazing. That is going to be one long ass flight for a short trip but what an experience just to see it and be with your BF!

@labro When we were re-doing our bathroom in the old house, we wanted to keep it really cheap because we were selling the house. We didn't want high end, we just wanted not 1950 so it would sell. We had a contractor come over and quote us $4500 JUST for the plastic/fiberglass shower walls. We were like are you out of your fucking mind?!?! My H and his dad ended up doing the shower, toilet, wainscoting, sink/ vanity, lighting, painting, adding an outlet and adding an exhaust fan for around $1,800.

@jenna8984 - Yeah...a long-ass flight indeed. 24 hours, basically, with layovers. So I'll have plenty of time to catch up on reading (and I actually can sleep really well on planes, so I'll probably do that too!). I end up with 3 total full days there, but it's completely worth it to know when I'm going to get to see him again.

@jenna8984 H was definitely getting annoyed with me wanting to look at things side by side. I was kind of disappointed though....our HD did not have the selection of tile I was expecting!

@jenna8984 Yeah... my current total cost on the spreadsheet is a lot less than $3k but I'm trying to factor in all the random things that come up, plus 20% for hidden costs. Plus I have some other items I haven't factored in yet like re-doing our linen closet, and new lighting fixtures.

This weekend was really nice. We went to the winterfest on Friday. It was freezing so we double layered, but we had fun drinking wine and looking at art.

Saturday, I spent most of the morning putting away clothes. My bf finally got our dressers in, so I had to dump everything out of the boxes and organize. Now we just need the closet finished. We went to my mom's for dinner to celebrate me getting my masters. We played CAH, and my brother got to feel Emmy kick for the first time. His reaction was adorable. My family chipped in and gave me flowers and a spa giftcard. So I will be scheduling a massage for the near future.

Yesterday, I did a little bit of cleaning, but mostly sat on the couch with Cal. I made crockpot ziti, which made the house smell amazing. Then I went out to Michaels and got the baskets for my sister, a hot glue gun, and boxes for the cakes. When bf got home from work we had the ziti and a salad. The ziti was good, but too dry so I said if I ever make it again I would double the amount of sauce in it. After dinner my bf played a bunch of songs on his guitar. Which turned into musical roulette. Basically I'd play a song off my phone and he had to play it. While he was serenading Cal, I mean me (traitor dog thought the music was for her and was snuggled up with him), I made a bunch of crafts. I painted a sign for Emmy's room, and made aprons for all of my nieces. I wanted to make bows, but I got the wrong size glue sticks for my glue gun, so once again am bowless. I didn't take pictures of the aprons, but here's Emmy's sign:

Tonight we're having dinner at my bf's parents. Hopefully the roads aren't icy, they're calling for snow, rain, and sleet all night and tomorrow morning.

@futuremrshistorian hahahaha its ok, I just had to reread your post because I couldn't figure out why everyone was talking about Dubai. Have an awesome trip! And that is an amazing deal. I have alerts for all of Europe because I haven't seen flights for under $1,000 in years, so under $1000 for Dubai is incredible.

I was just thinking this. We have classes today, but most of the public schools don't...the completely adorable son of one of my colleagues was helping his Dad get things off the printer in the department office a few minutes ago when I went down there. The cuteness was about overwhelming.

@southernpeach89 - I love your wreath! I love Callie! I LOVE the crossfit badass that you are. Pretty much I love your entire weekend.

@labro - We have such similar tastes!!! H and I looked at that same granite for our kitchen and that same flooring for our kitchen too! We ended up going a different route but seriously those were the top two contenders from HD for us and it is LOVELY granite/flooring. I also think the shower tile will look amazing! So excited for you guys!

@jenna8984 - So sweet of your H!! I don't buy stuff for myself either unless I'm desperate. Nice of him to literally take the decision out of your hands!

@futuremrshistorian - Awwww, I feel your sister on the weight gain train. I know its hard. She looks great though!! Have fun in Dubai!

This is long, sorry....weekend was surprisingly eventful here. Didn't get off to the best start. H and I got into it on Friday and I was sick with a cold and cranky so that didn't help. Honestly, I think the remodel, business/work stress and baby stuff is wearing on us. We need a break but there is no end in sight right now. My BIL ended up not coming this weekend either with the tile person/painters so we got nothing bathroom related done despite running around like crazy to try to get the shower tile for this weekend. I understand, he wants a weekend off too, but I just want this bathroom DONE already. Sigh. Next week we have a plan in place to tackle the shower tile, grouting the floor tile and painting so at least there is that.

Saturday was considerably better...H and I cleaned for a good part of the day so the house is nice and clean. We then caught up on X-Files and had an easy night. I went to bed early to try to knock out this cold.

Sunday was a GREAT day though. H and I put together the crib!!! Here is it...

Also, we put up our curtains from India (we were waiting for the construction dust to be done to put them up). We paid literally a fraction of the cost for curtains because we got it from India and its better quality than all the samples I saw from U.S. stores. I'm so happy to have them up...hard to see the color from the picture but it is a nice cream/white with a little tan in it.

Finally, H and I went out to dinner Sunday night (Mexican) for Valentines Day. We had a great talk about baby stuff and I think we decided on a name too!!! We aren't sure how we are going to spell it yet so I'm hesitant to share it just yet....we aren't sharing it with anyone other than our families and I'll share it with you gals because you rock

It was incredibly difficult to find a name that is really international (and not my own or one that sounds like my own), especially one that is used in both India and Denmark/Scandinavia.

....Ah, what the hell...this spelling isn't set in stone obviously and we reserve all rights to change it but I think we are going to go with some variant of Aneka for her first name (pronounced "AH-knee-kah") and some variant of Carrin/Karin for her middle. My grandmother's name was Karen, my middle name is Karn after her but the Danish way she always pronounced it is not "Care-un" like most in the U.S. do but "Car-wren" so we aren't sure how to spell it just yet so it doesn't get slaughtered. Maybe that is invetiable but I'm open to spelling ideas if you all have any.

We've already taken to calling her Anee though ("Ah-knee") as a short form of her first name and we love it.

Good morning! I have today off! It's still freezing outside and tomorrow looks like a high of 50. Gotta love New England weather. This weekend was really fun. My H had Saturday off so we went shopping and watched TV. We played Pie Face at night with family and it was so funny, and equally messy. Sunday we did breakfast out with my MIL and later out to dinner at the same Indian place we go to every year on Valentine's. Definitely a nice, easy weekend.

Today I have zero plans- except for possibly getting my nails done. It's just so cold out that I don't really feel like leaving. Tomorrow and Wednesday I have PD for work. Looks like the pipes in the school froze and then cracked so the location for work has changed to the other middle school. They are hustling to fix it for when the kids come back on Thursday. Hopefully none of my things got ruined. I'll cry!
