Weekend Plans?

Happy Friday! Anyone got any interesting plans for the weekend?

I have some drinks with my netball team tonight (won a bar tab for coming top of the league, oh yeah!) which we have stupidly decided to go ahead with even though we have two early morning games on Saturday. It's probably going to be a struggle, but at least we'll all be hanging and not just me! On Saturday FI & I plan to do some life admin and cook a really nice meal that includes the Camembert that is sort of making the whole house smell every time we open the fridge door.....I cant wait. We need to give thought to some of the songs we want to use in the wedding so we've been spending date nights drinking wine and watching youtube. We've found some great songs that we'd always loved but kind of forgotten about. It's by far been one of the best parts of planning, I wish we could spend all our time on this and MUCH less on how the hell all the practicalities come together.

Re: Weekend Plans?

  • Tomorrow is my most favorite drinking day of the year. The annual train pub crawl. We start at 11:00 am and ride the train back and forth through the suburbs stopping at bars. Then Sunday-like Wednesday will be recovery.

is that an actual event or just something your friends do?

I think they have actual events around Chicago but this is just a group of friends. But there's usually like 30 of us. I think this year is the tenth annual.

  • Nothing planned, it is supposed to be around 60 degrees today and tomorrow so I'd like to enjoy the warm up but the wind is going to be strong so probably won't really be able to do much but we will see. Maybe we can take the dog out somewhere so we get some fresh air and get him exercise. Was supposed to have brunch plans with friends but they had to be rescheduled. May still see if one of those friends wants to still meet up since we haven't had any one-on-one time for a while.

We're also switching to DirecTV Monday so we have to clear everything off the DVR. I have a few movies from when Uverse does free Showtime a few times each year but if I don't watch them it isn't the end of the world. Don't want to spend all weekend just watching TV.

  • I have a hair appointment tomorrow morning, and then tomorrow night we are going out to celebrate the big promotion H just got (hooray!).

Nothing else planned, although H & I have been talking about trading in my car since it's getting harder to find parts for it and it's 9 years old, so we might go to a few dealers to do some test drives. It's bittersweet. I definitely need a new car, but I love my car. It was the first car I ever bought. I love that thing.
  • @ShesSoCold I always love a pub crawl in theory but im reality I'm under the table by the 5th one. In london people like to try the monopoly pub crawl (a pub in every location on the board) or pick a tube line and try to visit a pub at every stop. I've attempted both and failed miserably! Hella good fun trying though. Less good fun when FI has to drag my drunken arse home.

  • Good luck @ShesSoCold ! Which line, out of curiosity? I've never tried one as I'm too lightweight, but with the Metra, the spacing out of the train stops should help quite a bit with pacing. I've seen people doing that on the NW line, like Durty Nellies.

We're seeing an accountant, cleaning/decluttering my home, having the Realtor over to list my place and then going to see some potential new properties. And it's going to be unseasonably warm here. Yay!

Last year we were all a trainwreck by like 9:00. I think H picked me up at like 10:30. In previous years we've made it to last call at 2:30 so my goal is at least midnight. We have 6-7 stops (2-4 hours at each train stop). Luckily we've perfected it over the years and only stop at bars we like and don't go all the way downtown anymore.

You gotta remember to have water every few drinks! :)

UP west (Ogilvie - Elburn). We go to Geneva, Winfield, Lombard, Elmhurst, back to Lombard, back to Winfield and then end in West Chicago. It got too expensive and too drunk to go downtown.

Making a playlist was one of the most fun parts of wedding planning for H and me since we both love music! I also found listening to a lot of Pandora helped -- just plug in one of your favorite songs and see what else comes up.

This weekend I'm visiting a friend in South Carolina and am excited to see her but it's also the first time since we've been married that I'm traveling without H. It feels weird -- not quite sure what the word is to express how I'm feeling... sort of bummed I guess? But still happy to see my friend? Anyway, it's going to be 70 there this weekend and it's 30 here in Boston, so yay.

  • I'm currently sitting in Denver airport on my way home from NOLA.  My weekend will consist of relaxing.  My brain is fried from working so many hours.

I might get bumped from the flight for a $300 voucher.  Will not know for another 20 minutes.   The next flight is an hour and a half later, so no big deal.  I took a $500 bump on the way down.   If I get this one then our trip out east in April should be paid for.  Maybe even extra leftover for another trip.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Going to a paint day type thing with a friend. Like the wine & paint, but without the wine. Also hopefully getting a bunch of shit done around the house that I didn't do this week because I've been sick for six days. And Sunday maybe check off some wedding tasks. 99 days to go. Cue freakout.

Yeah, its like going down the rabbit hole with the "suggested" songs. Cue much "omg I love this song!" from us all night. Lots of 90's alt rock; much hair, much plaid!

  • Tomorrow: taking the car into the shop. Sunday: going with FW to see my brother in a play.
Tonight: not a damn thing. I'm fighting a cold and spent the week training a new hire.
  • We were supposed to be hanging out with friends all weekend, but I got some bad news yesterday and didn't sleep, so I'm probably going to be an emotional roller coaster all weekend. FI is totally cool with sitting on the coach and playing video games until I decide I'm up to doing something, or that I need some emotional support. He's pretty awesome.

  • I have a work event tomorrow night that H and I are going to. Other than that, H will work most of the weekend. :( He has to get some stuff done soon.
  • I'm feeling like the quintessential basic bitch tonight.  I got my hair done, picked up a bottle of wine, am waiting on my carry-out while working at the island drinking and listening to the Jodeci Playlist on  YouTube.

Tomorrow, I'm working a wedding (seated dinner for 120) and then Sunday I'm headed to a casino in the West side of the state for our annual sales meeting.

@kvruns My backyard is full of trees and the wind is freaking me out right now!

Yes! This is awesome! I do this a lot when I travel domestically. Though I'm sorry to hear it will take you longer to get home.

My best paid delay yet was in 2011 I was flying from Dublin through Chicago to LAX (and then my H was driving from San Diego, picking me up in LAX and driving me us back to San Diego.) We were super tight on money, don't ask. Anyway, when I hit Chicago they were overbooked to LAX and asked if anyone would take a $500 voucher, spend the night in Chicago, and take the next morning's flight to LAX. I was feeling super sick and was up for that because I just wanted to sleep but couldn't get in touch with my H to see if he could get me the next day. 15 mins passed and no one approached the counter. Then I had the genius idea to tell them I'd bump but would they fly me to San Diego the same day. They did! I caught a flight an hour later to my hometown avoiding the horrible drive from LAX to SAN and still got the $500 airfare voucher.
  • I have a charity event tonight that I'm super excited for. Dressing up, limo, champagne!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I just finished another paper.  This one sucked.  I need a break, which I'm not getting for another month a a bit.  I am impressed that I managed to get in all of the articles I read for this one into the references.  Yay me!

I'm also starving at the moment, and haven't had anything sweet/bad for me (with the exception of dessert for "V-Day" last weekend and I really want to go binge eat some cookies or something at the moment.  But it's 10pm, and that would be no good.
