Place Cards / Meal Choice - help please

So, we're doing a beach theme wedding. I was planning on making the place cards using actual starfish and sand dollars and affixing a small card with the name/table # to that. The starfish would indicate that the guest ordered the fish and the sand dollar would be chicken. My dilemma is that I didn't think this through when creating my response cards that simply say "indicate # of each". Now I have no idea who is ordering what. Any ideas?

  • Realize your guests/vendors are adults and can remember what they ordered/have enough extras in cases like this?

  • Well, since you don't know who ordered what, I don't think your idea is going to work. You could use one escort card for each couple/family and indicate on the card how many of each option there are with a stamp or little stick-on jewel thingy. Or just know how many of what are at each table and let the venue know.

Also, some people may not appreciate your use of actual sand dollars and starfish. Those are living creatures - you wouldn't use a dead bird as an escort card if you had a lovebird theme, would you?

  • There are definitely going to be people who don't like you using these creatures for this.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

We had the same issue. For some, it worked out fine, one person ordered beef and the other ordered chicken. Some people I was able to assume (I know my mom would pick the chicken, not the beef). Others, I asked.

We colour coded our place cards. Unfortunately the colours were not different enough that during dinner with the lights low, the staff couldn't tell some of the colours apart. They knew totals for each table (i.e. 6 chicken, 4 beef), as our venue asked us for this, so they brought the plates out and asked individual guests.

Otherwise, I have seen place cards with a small jewel or stick in the corner to denote which meal.
