Procession

I'm sorry if similar questions have been asked before. I'm very new to these boards.

I have my mom and stepdad, my dad and stepmom, my grandma, and fiancé' mom to include in the procession. All of these people are essential. I have no siblings, and fiancé's brother will most likely be a GM.

That all being said, I have no idea how to order my procession. Grandma has to have someone sturdy walk her due to mobility issues, and my dad is the obvious choice. But I want him to walk me down the aisle. Plus my stepdad is very very much my dad too. And I'm worried he'll be upset if I choose my dad. I'd like to have fiancé walk his mom to her seat so it's like his mom and my dad are giving us their blessing (I hate the phrase being given away). My stepdad could walk with my mom but then who will my stepmom walk with? It's like does my dad walk his mom his wife or his daughter? Which is super weird. There are no other males in the family that I would want in the procession. I don't plan to invite any uncles or anything.

Any ideas?

Re: Procession

  • Why not give Grandma two escorts? Either your dad and stepmom or your mom and stepdad (depending on whose mom Grandma is) can walk on either side of her. Whoever isn't walking with Grandma can walk with you, and your FI can still walk with his mom.

Your dad can escort your step mom down the aisle and then turn back to meet up with you. If your step mom is seated as one of the first, there will be plenty of time for this.

I agree that Grandma can be walked with her child and son/daughter-in-law (whichever of your parents is her child).
  • FBIL can walk your FMIL. Have your mom and stepdad together, and your dad and stepmom walk grandma and dad circle back around for you.

There are lots of ways to incorporate both of your dads like you could split your dance between both of them, have them both walk you, have him do a reading etc.

Future bro in law will be part of the procession as a groomsmen. I do like the idea of fiance walking his mom first. I suppose my dad can walk my stepmom and grandma afterwards and then seat them and double back. Then my mom and stepdad. The the bridesmaids and groomsmen. So that would give my dad enough time I hope.
  • Can you have the groomsmen act as escorts, so it's not just your dad going back and forth 3 times? I've seen groomsmen do this for all the single/widowed VIP ladies prior to the wedding party's processional before.
  • A groomsman can easily escort someone then go back to be in the processional. This is exactly what my sons did in DD's wedding.
