Discount Dress Sites- Help!!

My best friend is getting married, and we are trying to find a dress that fits within their tight budget. If anyone knows any legitimate sites to find cheap dresses please let me know!! Also it would need to be able to be shipped to Alaska. Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Re: Discount Dress Sites- Help!!

  • Just... don't. A quick google search of chinese knockoff fails will show you this is not something you should do. Even if you read reviews, chances are they are written by fake accounts. If your friend is the size of the average American woman she will not fit in these dresses, if it comes on time or at all.

Go to a department store, or order online from target or old navy. Ive worn $30 bridesmaids dresses from target and my rehearsal dinner was a dress I got from old navy 7 years earlier. Both were gorgeous.

Check out thrift and consignment stores, too.

  • See what bridal stores have off the rack. Sometimes they are getting rid of their samples and they go on sale for a good price.
  • Pearl's Place in Louisiana will order dresses from most major manufacturers except Maggie Sottero, and of course there is always David's Bridal.

Pearl's Place does not accept returns unless there is something wrong with the dress, and they recommend having the ladies try on a sample dress before ordering.  They also need complete measurements, not just size.

  • I'm a big fan of Target's wedding stuff-my bridesmaid's got their dresses from there as they were scattered around the country and shipping was fast, and returns were easy so if they wanted to order two sizes and pick which fit best, they could. Also tell your friend to look into bridesmaid's dresses that come in her chosen color as options for her own dress-that can save a ton of money. Target link is below:

I'm not positive if David's ships to AK, but they have many bridesmaids dresses available in white that are reasonable and beautiful as well.

  • JC Penny, Macy's, Sears, Nordstrom...  And - David's Bridal all are options.  David's has many clearance dresses that she can save a TON purchasing, they're a reputable company.  Being on a tight budget doesn't mean she has to sacrafice a beautiful gown!

When it comes to the companies overseas, the challenge is this "buyer beware".  Yes, I've ordered from a couple of them (after doing the research especially looking at "what I ordered vs. what I got" and had decent experiences, but before ordering I knew it was at my own risk, and I have had a couple things flop but I knew the risk before I purchased (I'm plus-size so I ordered something custom measurements for me and while for my niece her dress turned out great, mine, being plus-size, not so much, I'd been better to order one of their "rack" sizes).  I also had some of the same expenses I'd otherwise have (pressing/steaming the formal gowns I purchased, alterations, etc).  I have no reservations ordering a formal gown from there since other than David's, I can never go to any bridal salon and have dresses to try on so it's a gamble in the first place, but I'd never purchase my wedding gown that way..

  • Has anyone heard of Coco melody?
  • I wouldn't, I'm with Inixion8. Don't do it. Your best bet is a couple of options which include going to a sample rack sales at your local bridal salons or taking a trip to one, trying a privately owned mom and pop store or David's bridal also has some nice dresses too which are pretty affordable. Not to mention some have coupons online

Just because something is sold on Ebay, doesn't guarantee quality.  There is poor quality merchandise sold there, too.  I make it a personal rule never to buy anything over $10 that comes from China or Malaysia.

I police Ebay looking for fake Hermes scarves because I have the knowledge.  I see about two fakes a week.  I contact the dealers and tell them that their scarf is a fake, and ask them to end the listing.  95% of sellers do this, and thank me for the warning, but about 5% ignore me and sell the fake to some poor buyer for $$$.  I do report them, but I have no idea if Ebay follows up.

Try the sale section on David's Bridal.

    http://www.davidsbridal.com/sale

Also, many of their bridesmaid's dresses come in ivory, silver, gold, blush and would make suitable wedding dresses.

If she orders online, she should read the fine print. Some of the dresses aren't returnable.
