New York-Long Island

Just Visited the Milleridge Cottage!

Hi! I'm a new Long Island bride :) My mom, fiance, and sister (MOH) just went to visit the Milleridge Cottage at the Milleridge Inn. Oy vey! What an experience. We met with Leslie about having a Sunday afternoon wedding next summer. Off the bat it didn't start off well. She forgot the groom's name; she laughed at the idea that I'd want to do my own escort cards; she cut me off on a regular basis and made me feel stupid for asking questions. And eeks--the place was not well kept up! The fiance saw mold on the tables outside and asked if they could be covered with tablecloths: no. Could we try the food: no. We could try the food a month before the wedding! So, if we didn't like the food, we couldn't really do much about it, at that point! Oh, and we'd have to sit around her desk to eat the food. The bridal suite was tiny (I'm not a picky person, but you couldn't fit more than four people in there, let alone the photographer). The grounds were pretty outside, but you couldn't hear yourself talk with the traffic noise. The whole night was her telling us what they WON'T do and what we CAN'T do! It was a humerous nightmare! Has anyone else had experiences with the Milleridge Cottage?!

I went to a wedding there last year and it was the best I have ever been to. Don't worry about mold on outdoor tables, those can be bleached and cleaned and I am sure they will be. The venue was beautiful and the food was outstanding. I would suggest maybe talking to someone else there and telling them what you are looking for any I'm sure they can help. It was beautiful there so try and keep an open mind.

I personally do not like it there. I just feel as if the place is an older place. I used to go there for dinner with my family - the food was ok, but I felt like they catered to an older group of people.

If you had a bad feeling about it - go look somewhere else. There are PLENTY of places on the island.

I've never even heard of this place, but I would never book somewhere that wouldn't let me try the food. Then again that was the most important thing to us when considering a venue. I hope your search gets better!

I have to say I am shocked to hear that! I was dealing with Debbie and she was nothing short of amazing.  I expressed my concerns about the food to her (because the INN food stinks) and she offered a tasting before I even booked.  And, of course the food was delicious. We booked on the spot.  Most places on LI will absolutely NOT give you a tasting until you book.  I think the cottage is beautiful. The food is terrific, the service top notch and the room is elegant and understaded.  If you are looking for a gaudy place  then Milleridge is not for you and you should move on.   The grounds are nothing great, thats true but the village shops are adorable and give guests something to do between the church and the reception.
