Wedding Woes

Tuesday!

Rise and shine, WW!  Guten morgen!

What's on the agenda today?  I'm playing catch-up, because I was in a THREE HOUR training sesh yesterday afternoon that was exactly what it sounds like.  Hopefully I'll have more time to play later, but right now I should be feeding stuff to our martyr of a new graphic designer...

Re: Tuesday!

  • Sorry I didn't return yesterday!
Glad we have recruited new people to the This is Us party ;) Sadly no new ep tonight :( boo-urns

Yesterday was a "human chain" around the U.S. Embassy to half protest Trump and half show our support for the Muslim community. I didn't go because it happened while I was at work, and the vigil last night for the shooting in Quebec I didn't attend because it is damn cold in this city.
My body is currently trying to fight a cold, and I just don't wanna push it.

Last night M and I got into an argument. Shouting, tears, words. Whatever, it's over now but it felt like something that was bound to happen. I hate arguments.

Work today is playing catch up. We've got a busy day but I gotta catch up on paperwork on my desk.

I'll try to pop in and out later :)

    @mrsconn23  yay higher return! :)
  • Ugh @MissKittyDanger.  I hate fights.  DH and I fight quick and dirty.  We don't draw shit out for days or anything, but man we can get into it and it sucks every.single.time.  Feel better.  <3
  • @mrsconn23  thanks <3 we don't usually draw it out, but it was at the point neither of us were listening so it turned into an argument. He understand where I'm coming from, and I now understand where he's coming from. Sucks when it happens, it's rarely that bad {tbh I think in 6 years we've had an argument that bad MAYBE 3x?}
  • I have a dentist appointment this afternoon.  I hate dentists.  I haven't been since last year when the quack I saw shone this stupid laser into my molars, told me my "numbers" were 12 and 18, which meant I had two cavities that needed to be filled immediately and basically held his palm out for immediate payment.  When I asked what the x-rays and visual exam showed, I got a really circuitous non-answer, which made me suspicious (since I've always had really healthy teeth and have never had a cavity), so I googled this laser and learned that the accepted threshold for detecting tooth decay with this instrument is anything higher than 85.  I didn't go back, and I missed my 6-month cleaning because of the move/laziness.

I probably will have a cavity this time.  Sigh.  But anyway, I am a little apprehensive about going.  I really miss my old dentist.  She was a star.

I spent yesterday swallowing panic attacks at work because I realized my burgeoning confidence is a lie and I actually don't know how to do my job.  Outlook is much improved today, but it was still a humbling realization.

@MissKittyDanger, hugs.  DH and I had a fight a while back that was 80% my fault that I'm still reeling from.  It wasn't drawn out or anything, but it touched on some pretty sensitive issues that we're both just trying to move on from, and it has stemmed from a deep-rooted misunderstanding that has been really, really hard to fix.  Fights suck.  All the hugs.

  • @AtomicBlonde  Hugs! I hate misunderstandings :( Those are so hard. Have you guys been able to work it through better?
  • Gooooood morning errybody!

I'm back to reality today - we had a great weekend mountain adventure! Our tasting was f-ing delicious, I think I'm more excited to eat than anything else! We met with our officiant, which I was super nervous about because we didn't have a clue what kind of things to ask or expect from the meeting, but it was so great and he led the meeting and knew exactly what to do, and we LOVE HIM! Haha we both left and were like "we couldn't have picked anybody more perfect". Such a relief considering I just picked him off of the internet list of officiants in Banff and he happened to be available. Lol.

We also got to see our ballroom set up for a wedding that is a little bigger than ours, we're aiming for 65ish, and this one was for ~80, so it was nice to see the set up. The tables are supposed to seat up to 10, but 10 looked pretty squishy when we saw it set up. I don't have really anything for table decor so that will help. But I was budgeting on 6 tables of 10 because it seemed smart, but now I think we may have to adjust a few tables so I'll have to add another centrepiece and table runner or two. (its not going to break the budget, I just don't want to have to do it lol)

@MissKittyDanger - hugs because fights suck!

FI is going in to start shopping for our mortgage renewal, it's crazy to think that we've been in our house for almost five years already! Where does the time go?! Feels like we were just babies when we first bought it!

@MissKittyDanger, for sure, we're working through it much better.  Really all it was is we just sucked at communicating.  Neither of us felt like we were being heard and understood on the issue, and now I think we're at least reading the same book, if we're not yet on the same page.

(ETA and by "communicating," I really mean "listening."  We are learning how to listen above and beyond want we want to hear.)

  • @MissKittyDanger Ugh I hate that for you guys. Arguments are the worst.

@mrsconn23 glad you are all well so far!

@Heffalump 3 hours of training is entirely too long.

@AtomicBlonde YUCK I hate the dentist too. I feel your pain.

    Morning, y'all.

I was in an uncharacteristically bad mood yesterday. The longer the day went on, the more I realized it. I'm still trying to figure out what is normal for me re: hormones since this is the first time I've been off the pill in years. I think I'm better today.

I had a small fiasco at Walmart last night. I stop there a lot after work if I need something to go with dinner because there's one right across the street from my office. Well. I may be reconsidering that. I ran in last night to grab a couple of ingredients I was missing for dinner and grabbed a couple of bottles of wine. Went through the self checkout. The same attendant is always there that time of night and he is SUPER nice. He did the whole DOB check, etc. and I paid and went on my merry little way. The machine didn't print out my receipt, but I didn't think a whole about it.

As I started to go out the door, the greeter stopped me and asked to see my receipt. First of all, I checked out literally 20 feet away from the guy, so I was a little dumbfounded that he wanted a receipt. Second of all, I have literally NEVER been asked to show a receipt at Walmart. Everything I'd bought was bagged up, so it's not like I was walking out with a bunch of stuff unbagged. I explained that the register didn't print a receipt for me. He told me I had to go back and have the attendant print one out. I was annoyed. The greeter then proceeded to escort me back to the self checkout. I felt like I was getting arrested or something. I told the attendant what was going on and he printed out a receipt, but it wasn't mine. The register will only print out the last one and someone had checked out right after me. He tells the greeter he checked my ID, saw me pay, etc. The greeter is still acting super suspicious. Y'all. I'm pretty sure my face was 50 shades of red, partially from embarrassment and partially from getting legit mad. I guess they realized how ridiculous the whole thing was and started trying to joke around with me. Bad idea on their part. They finally let me go with all the stuff that I paid for.

No more Walmart for TFB for a long time.

  • @AtomicBlonde  sounds kinda what happened with us. Only good thing about arguments is that afterwards you know you can only move forward.
  • Ugh, that's really fucking frustrating @thefanciestbeckler.  I'd avoid Wally World as well.

I try to avoid Wal-mart because I hate them, but it's around the corner from my house.  So going out of the way to Meijer (15-ish mins away) when I need one little thing (or if the weather's bad) is ridiculous sometimes.  But as a rule, I typically don't shop there.
  • Max was up coughing last night.  We finally let the kittens in our room and the shithead one kept trying to attack my hair and the quiet one.  I'm tired.

My bloodwork from yesterday is slowly trickling in.  I've always worried about diabetes and of course my fasting sugar is high.  My fasting has always been troubling so I tried to look at A1C and can't seem to find it.  Now I have to call.

Otherwise a bunch of stupid work.

    No.  I'll bring the chips.
I'm starving too. It's enchilada day in the cafe downstairs, but lunch isn't served for another hour. I feel like maybe they need my help in the kitchen. You know, for safety's sake.  ;)
Quality assurance. You need to make sure each batch is just as good as all the others.

Never too early for salsa. I make a killer guac that I'll bring to this party.

  • @thefanciestbeckler That's brutal, sounds like somebody was on a bit of a power-trip. At least the attendant guy tried to stand up for ya!

@charlotte989875 NEVER TOO EARLY FOR LUNCH! It's second breakfast :)

    brunch.
  • @drid I know right?? It was ridiculous. Oh well. Glad you guys had a great weekend and loved your officiant! That's awesome!

@mrsconn23 I will be avoiding Wally World as much as I can from now on. Their prices really aren't much better than other places, anyways.

The WM in town here now makes you bag your own stuff too! So its nowhere NEAR worth it to even go there. I'd rather pay a liiiitle bit more at Sobeys to a)not have to pay for a cart and b)not have to pay for bags and c)not have to bag my own shit

  • I finally saw Hidden Figures last night, and it was REALLY good.

Work is a little slow today, but I have a ton of meetings tomorrow and Thursday (Friday off) so I'm working on getting ahead on my list.

I have 2 trips planned for Feb., so the travel bug is manageable for now. One business, one family trip - back to back in the same week. That should make for a fun time. (Sun-Thurs for work, then Fri - Sun with the family - home for all of 24 hours between trips.) I still need to look at a potential spring break thing with the family - even if it's only a few days/road trip. Maybe we can go to NOLA  or somewhere in West Texas.

  • OMG so my dad turns 65 over Memorial Day weekend, and I really want to go home to celebrate.  I talked my brother into also potentially coming home (!!!), and so I immediately started looking at flights since it's a holiday weekend.  I sent DH a bunch of options that will require him to either: a) take PTO Friday for a $60 flight b) take a couple hours PTO Tuesday for a $150 roundtrip flight, c) pay $150 to fly out Friday and not use PTO Tuesday, d) pay more to not take PTO on Friday or Tuesday, or e) stay home, and his response was:

    "That works."

    OMFG MAN WHAT DOES????

  • @short+sassy  If I were closer to downtown, I definitely would have gone down. Where I work is more west {approx 45min bus ride}
Side note, welcome to the This is Us party ;) I saw you binged it
  • Have any of you ever worked with a mother and daughter? If not, consider yourself blessed. It is absolutely hell on earth.

Ex-mistress's daughter, son, husband, and brother in law all work here. Now she's trying to get another family member hired. I'm about to flip my shit on somebody.

  • @thefanciestbeckler  isn't there a rule? Many employers will allow family to work together as long as it's not directly.
  • @MissKittyDanger ex mistress and her daughter work on the same team, so I'm guessing no rules here.

  • I'm back at work today.  Feeling another degree better.  I need to get working on catching up on my calcium intake but I'm afraid to add in dairy too fast.  Some people I've heard had the stomach flu relapsed after 4-5 days.  I don't want that.

Betsey is at peace now.  Thank you all for the love and support.  It really did mean tons to me!  The vet was nice and they waited until all other patients had left for the day so we had the place to ourselves.  It was sad, but knowing she's not hurting anymore helps me the most.  H & I laughed about all the craziness she put us through in just the year and few months we had her.  That also helped a lot!  We also joked that she was such a shedder, she will actually be with us until eternity!  Our car alone, is one giant Betsey explosion of fur, even with the seat cover!
