Wedding Woes

Tuesday

This cold has entered the obnoxious phase.  Also, it started in my chest and is now in my head.  That's...not how gravity works.  ;)  /health whine

My afternoon off with DH was great.  We went to Nordstrom Rack to exchange shoes I bought him online.  He got two new pairs for the price we paid for the first pair of shoes.  The kids got some stuff and I got a new pair of (smaller!) jeans and a necklace.

We went to Trader Joe's and Costco after that.  Costco has brought back my most favorite layer tanks and I am so happy.  After Costco, we came home and I just hung out with DefConn the rest of the night.

How's your morning going?

Re: Tuesday

  • And I totally forgot it's Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras.   But, it's not something we really celebrate as a region.  ;)  I know work is doing something in the office, but that's about it.

I would be happy to have some king cake.  Maybe there's a trip to the store in my future.  :D

I ordered a king cake from one of our local bakeries, and DS and I are picking it up while Wooz is at art tonight.  It is conveniently located next to Trader Joe's, so I think we'll be popping in there, as well.

It's supposed to be 75 today, but I'm spending my lunch hour getting my teeth cleaned, and then I have another stupid webinar this afternoon.  I am stropping hard today.

Work has been crazy lately, and I hope it settles down a bit.
  • Tank info please?  I'm in drop off line feeling a head cold coming on. I have tons of returns to make this morning and end of month stuff to do.
  • I was skeptical of Costco clothing at first @mrsconn23 , but they have some good staples. The tanks are great, and I got a few denim blouses this fall that I wear all the time.

Working from home/napping as needed until the face and tooth pain goes away.

They work under *everything* and the length is perfect.  Plus the straps adjust.  I was on my last one that was hanging on by a literal thread and then they were back.  I bought these colors and the black/white/grey.
  • Happy Tuesday Peeps!

First day of the next part of my bookkeeping course today, time to learn Simply. I'm actually really excited, I just love learning lol.

I have to drive 20 minutes on the highway to get there and I think I might have a panic attack just thinking about it. I had a very close call this weekend and lost control on the highway in full speed. Somehow I got very lucky and didn't hit anybody or the ditch, gad dammm frozen rain. I've since lost all of my confidence though... ughhh.

    WANT.

They have some leggings I've seen a couple of times now, but I've had a hard time overcoming my skepticism.  I think I should just go for it.

Unrelated:  Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls arrived yesterday, and it is even more awesome than it looked.

That sucks! And I totally know how you feel. I was behind an accident in the rain, on the highway a few months ago and it freaked me out. I didn't want to drive on the highway at all. And didn't for a few weeks.

Just take it slow, let people pass you, and give yourself some extra time to get there. You'll be fine and once you get there safely you'll feel better.

THE LEGGINGS ARE AMAZING!!  GET THEM! NOW!

They are the soft material like Lu La Roe shit, but for pennies on the dollar.  Also, they are high-waisted on me (because I have short-ass legs)...which I love.  I wear them all.the.time...under tunics, to work out, to sleep.

Yikes, that would freak me out too. I had some issues with my 4x4 when it happened, so I think the worst part is that I don't feel like I can trust my truck. FI's been good about hounding me to go for drives in town though, making sure the anxiety doesn't get the best of me.

I'mma drive like a Gramma today.

EDIT: I made a Costco run on Saturday just for dog food. People thought I was crazy. I've mastered the art of head-down, get to what I need and get out lol

  • Morning!!

I ended up being off yesterday because my stomach hates me. Still not great today, but better than this weekend.

Saturday was Nikkie Payne. OMG I have never spent that much time laughing!! My face hurt so bad from just laughing! There was an MC and two warm-ups who were good also. Food was basically pub fare but still good :)
Also M and my mum met Nikkie - which pissed me off to no end! I was the reason why we were there!! Guhhh

Of course the weekend M doesn't get paid, is when our brakes decide to finally kick the bucket ... We knew this was coming but we were trying to get a better handle on finances before doing it.

Tonight we're going to my mum's for dinner because she has a Skype interview at 6pm and needs to use my laptop. I'm excited because it's an opportunity she could have for 3 months. I'm selfish because I don't want her to go :(
I'm still hopeful she gets it though.
  • Happy Mardi Gras. Here's a good link to some MG music to get you in the spirit.

I always hate to work on Mardi Gras. I'll be there next year, though. I go every other year.

  • Y'all, you know how I love my projects.  Would it be totally crazy to start a beehive in our backyard?  I'd wanted to do it for a while, but then I had a kid, and another, so between them, the cats, and the fish, I had plenty of critters to feed and clean up after and medicate as needed.  But I read Beekeeping for Dummies on a whim years ago, and ever since, I've wanted to start a beehive.

DH and I want to completely redo the backyard, so maybe I'll carve out a spot for a beehive.  They like east-facing dappled shade, so I have a spot in mind.  I'll need a good water source, though.

    Morning all!

Last night was good. My sciatic nerve started bothering me when I got off work, so I didn't work out. But I made a really yummy dinner instead! Blackened chicken with pineapple salsa, and roasted Brussels sprouts. I have leftovers for lunch :)

I just reached out to a former coworker who is now a branch manager at another mortgage company. She doesn't have any jobs open currently, but will have something open in the next month or so. She had me send a copy of my resume over to her. Maybe something will become of it! It's still a mortgage company (boo) but at least I know she does honest business and doesn't screw her employees over (yay!).

DH might be coming home for a visit tonight. I could really use some time with him after the way the last few days have gone. It's supposed to storm for a couple of days, so he won't be able to fly. It would be nice to spend some time with him before he gets transferred to somewhere farther away.

    . that's bait, right?
  • A friend of mine in NC built a hive @Heffalump, and she loves it. She got quite a bit of honey the second season (I think thats what it's called?). Plus you get a cute bee suit.

Teach me your ways. I can't leave without at least 5 things I didn't actually need.
  • Do it @Heffalump. Having your own bees = local honey = basically free allergy medicine.

(like my logic as a fellow southerner? :D)

  • Good luck @drid - I was the same way after helping  a couple people in an accident during a snow/ice storm a couple years ago.  I still get a little shaky on bridges from time to time.

@mrsconn23 Neti pot!  I swear by them when you're stuffed up.

@MissKittyDanger wasn't the doctor looking to rediagnose you?  Any news on that front?

I don't have a Costco membership any longer but my cheap go to tanks are the thick banded ones at Target and my go to cheap leggings are French Connection.  I used to find them at Meijer.

Fat Tuesday in Michigan is Packzi Day (pronounced poon-chki).  To the novice, it's a jelly filled donut.  To those in the know, they have a different batter for the dough which differentiates them.  I'm been a real fat ass lately, so I'm glad I'm WFH where I won't be near any.

A coworker is picking me up around 4 so we can leave for the casino where our meeting will be held.  Fingers crossed I don't log in sick as a dog on Friday after 3 days of enclosed smoke exposure.  When I quit smoking 7ish years ago, I would never have guessed that being in a casino would gross me out before it tempted me.

  • Aaaahhhhh CONGRATULATIONS @OliveOilsMom!!!!!!!!! she is beautiful, and I love that outfit.

  • Our upstairs AC isn't working, so last night was too hot and miserable. (it was in the upper 70s in our bedroom). The system is less than a year old, so everything should still be under warranty. My guess is that there's a communication error between the thermostat and the AC unit. It wasn't working Sunday night either, but it was only in the low 70s, so warm, but not as miserable. The HVAC guys said they'll be out this afternoon, so hopefully it's an easy fix that they can do today.

    still overloaded at work.
  • Congrats, @OliveOilsMom! She's beautiful! Glad mom and baby are healthy!
