Recommendations for spots to take engagement pictures

We are coming to Austin from Houston in April to take our engagement pictures.  Does anyone have suggestions on good locations?   We are not really the "keep austin weird" type, so don't want something too funky.  Maybe beautiful austin landscapes or old architecture with splash of color??  Any recommendations would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

We did some at the Capitol and then some at Mayfield Park.  Mayfield is full of peacocks & greenery and some older structures that turned out nice in our pictures.  We were going to go to Mount Bonnell too, but ran out of daylight.

It's usually helpful if you can tell us a little about who you are, what you and your fiance like to do in your free time, what brought you together, etc. My fiance and I weren't sure where we wanted to take our pictures until we started telling our photographer more about ourselves... now she's planned a full on shoot that is so completely US. If you two share that info with your photographer, I'm SURE she/he will have some great recommendations for you! And if you haven't yet found a photog, AL Collective is fabulous (and affordable). :)

An idea I saw on someone else's post was to look through Austin photographer's sites, find backgrounds you love, then email them asking for the locations. You may not get a response from every one, but good starting point!

Good luck and don't forget to share the pics!

Some suggestions you'll see commonly for nature shoots:

    - Laguna Gloria is always lovely (for a small fee)
    - Botanical Gardens (http://www.zilkergarden.org/)
    - Wildflower Center (http://www.wildflower.org/)

    Old with splash of color:

    - Dunvegan Keep - not really old, but has the look (http://www.dunvegankeep.com/)
    - Chateau Bellevue - great interior shots (http://www.chateaubellevueaustin.org/)

If you're interested in something more strange, the Cathedral of Junk might be a fun spot -- someone very beautiful in front of such an odd art installation (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/7816)

My fiance and I are very outdoorsy.  We had his dad (a great photog) take some pics of us playing around at Pedernales Falls State Park (our favorite hiking/camping/playing around by the river spot).  We also did more traditional pictures at Bob Wentz park on Lake Travis.  The park is a peninsula so you can get good lighting and water in the background in the morning or evening.

I agree with Mayfield Park, I took mine there because my husband proposed to me there. There's no doubt in my mind that you will LOVE it! :)

    Happy Hunting!
