Sand or unity candle alternative

FI and I are not fans of unity candles or sand ceremonies. What are some other alternatives?

    I'm doing the "Hand Ceremony"

Rebecca and George, Please face each other and take each other’s hands, so that you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever.

These are the hands that will work along side yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes your way.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will give you support and encouragement to chase down your dreams.

These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

These are the hands that will lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into eyes that are filled with overwhelming love for you.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

    Unity Painting! Amazing, moving, beautiful.

    The Salt Covenant
During ancient times, agreements and promises were sealed by a salt covenant. Each person would take a pinch of salt from their pouch and place it in the pouch of the other. This agreement could not be broken unless an individual could retrieve their own grains of salt. But this, of course, is impossible.

Both spouses should take a bag of salt and combine the the two bags inside the egg. This a bond that can not be broken... as is a symbol of an unbreakable promise of love

  • We're doing a Love Letter Ceremony. The bride and groom write love letters to each other prior to the wedding stating why they love the other person and why they are marrying them. During the ceremony the letters are locked in a box with wine glasses and a bottle of wine. The couple chooses an anniversary date to open the box and read the letters. We ordered the actual love letter box that we found online and it's gorgeous!

    I love this.
    Anniversary
  • rose ceremony or rope braiding
  • we are doing a rose ceremony to include my daughter as well
  • We are doing a tree planting ceremony...moms/families add dirt to the pot and we add dirt or water...Pasternak talks about how a tree represents love
  • We are doing a chemistry experiment - adding two different substances to create a spontaneous combustion. We wanted something fun, light-hearted, and different. :)
  • We are doing a combination of things. First, we are literally tying a knot. To be specific, we will tie a sailor's knot, because it is the strongest knot there is - the more pressure put on it, the stronger it becomes. It will break before it comes loose. In those ways, it is symbolic of a marriage.

After that, we are each going to take a flower from a vase at the front and give it to each other's moms to show that we are not just uniting ourselves, but our families as well.

  • My fiance and I are doing the unity cross. We saw it at a wedding a few months ago and loved the idea. There is an inner cross that represents the beauty of a woman and an outer cross to represent the strength of the man and three "nails", that hold the two crosses together, to represent the holy trinity.

I want to do the chemical experiment instead of the unity candle. What are the substances you are combining I other to get the reaction?
