Duet Plates!

I remember reading on an old post a recommendation on duet plates for the reception dinner because it is cheaper for the caterer. Is this true? Does anyone have any experience or insight on this topic??

    Yes, we are having a duet plate. I'm actually really excited about it, who wouldn't want two different options?!? For us, yes it is cheaper. The way our venue explained it to us is instead of them buying extra food and several different kinds, it's more cost effective to do the duet plate. It's cheaper because they know how much to order, how much to prepare, and what each guest will be served. Many times when someone gives an option the guests change their mind once they get to the reception. This costs the venue more money because they are preparing more than what was expected.
