Well, it's not a good secret because you're filing a public document in a government courthouse.

Secondly, "Be not afraid of greatness", but have little integrity. Awesome.

What caused you to bump your wedding up by nearly 3 years?

Getting married to someone you love is a wonderful thing.  I'm very happy for you both.
Many military couples JOP it, tell their VERY close relatives and keep mum until the big wedding.  It's personal preference.  Here's wishing you two a lifetime of happiness and congratulations.

This is exactly what my FI and I did. We got married last Friday and are planning a big wedding this September.  It allows me to move to the town he is stationed and set up a house before the wedding. We just couldn't stand being apart any longer. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

I think keeping mum, and the way OP is sounding, I think she's keeping mum to EVERYONE, kind of goes against the ideals of integrity and excellence in all we do.

Do whatever the heck you want, but the lying will ALWAYS bother people like me.

Nope, I def had his whole family with me, Just close fam and witnesses. He's leaving april 26th, and i wont be seeing him till graduation. It just made sense. we were married by  a JOP that was actually in N's mom's army unit almost 22 years ago, and it was totally a coincidence. The stars aligned, and it was beautiful. Thanks for the support from those who understand all too well, and good luck to you as well. :-)

Well, I'm glad you're not keeping it a secret. And just because there are those of us who don't support lying doesn't mean we don't support JOPs. I don't care what people do with their own lives, as long as they're not lying.

Are you still having a big wedding later? I saw that you got engaged earlier this month and just wondered what you were planning.

I think about eloping constantly. Wedding planning is stressful plus there's the nagging feeling that you want to be married RIGHT NOW. I totally get doing the JOP thing now and having the family wedding later.

We are planning a big celebration thats very family in-compassing. In fact I've sent out engagement announcements to our family's with a note to send any family pictures we can double. Then we'll use in them in different frames we'll have as our center pieces/favors. ( they're frames that are wooden all different shapes and sizes that are painted wedding colors that we'll fill with different happy memories from everyone in the two family's ) Everyone is really excited and i've even received phone calls from his extended family in Puerto Rico saying congrats and telling me all about the photos they have for us. That way, Nolan and I got out quiet day together, and our wedding will be a celebration of combining our familys and everyone gets a lil extra credit for building such a beautiful family.

i think its great you can be so postive even with all the negative comments your getting about this. i did the same thing. only telling close family. most of the couples on our base did. we dont see it as a big lie. these people act like they have never told a lie in their life and its so horrible that we are keeping our private lives secret. i understand why people could see it in a bad light but to each their own. congrats girl
