Any Suggestions for Military Wedding Bands?

Anyone know of any particular things to watch out for when looking for a wedding band for your military man?
Like any metals that tend to be better than others? Any regulations to watch out for?

There are too many options. Hit me.

Being military makes no difference on the wedding band he wears.  Tungsten can't be cleanly cut off like gold can, but it's cheaper so replacements are cheaper.

H got a tungsten band. It supposed to be more durable. I'd stay away from gold. Hi and congrats!

H can't wear his while working (more specifically flying) regardless of the material/metal... but we went with white gold and hammered finished (looks like crinkled up paper). When he is working he puts it on his dog tags.

Like Beach said - it doesn't matter. If they can't wear it then it doesn't matter what it's made out of. :) Go with what you like and can afford.

<div>The removal thing is what I was worried about I suppose. FI is under the impression that they'd cut off his finger if the wedding band couldn't be cut off..but surely that's wrong? </div>

<div>Actually this can be true, which is why I was very adamant about my H getting a gold band. He picked out a white gold one. He works with his hands a lot whether lifting heavy objects or turning huge valves, so if he were to get injured while working with the more durable metals, and it came to a point where they can't take/cut the ring off, it's possible they'd have to cut his finger off. IMO, I would rather spend the money than lose my husband losing a finger. My H also never takes off his ring. </div><div>

I believe titanium is the one that can't be cut? My h wears a white gold band, it's scratched and stuff, but it wasn't too expensive so we don't care haha. It still looks good.

It is true. But H plans on wearing his ring on his dog tags while working, since his is made of titanium (as well as meteorite and deer antler). I have absolutely no problem with this (especially since when I'm pregnant someday, I'm sure my fingers will swell so much that I'll have to put my ring on a necklace).

So just buy what you (or he, rather) wants.

While a tungsten ring can't be cut, it can be removed in emergency situations. Its more like cracking it or shattering it rather than cutting. Sidenote, one of jewelers we talked to tried to convince us that we should get H two rings, one for work and a nicer gold one to wear otherwise. Yea right buddy!

DH has a band we got for like 100 for when he's in the field. He has a white gold band with daimonds in it for any other time.

Ha ha, ummm we so got H 2 rings for that exact reason. No one reccomended it to us or anything, but I got him a gold (LOTR no less) ring to be fancy, and a tungsten ring to wear during labs and stuff in school, and for when he works. He only wears the LOTR ring, though, cause it's pretty bad ass. Also, Binx, you WOULD have deer antler in your H's ring! Love that.

Haha, I didn't realize that was common! I think we were turned off by it because H made it clear that he didn't care for the look of the gold or white gold rings to begin with, so why would he want to wear something besides tungsten if that's what he likes anyways, kwim?

The only reason we did it is because we got the Tungsten ring for free, I wouldn't actually PAY for a 2nd ring. I'm cheaps! ;) That is also how I got my awesome band that matches both of his bands and makes my set look chunky (which is what I wanted.)

Well... we got a bear's tooth and a deer's leg as wedding gifts... so I totally feel ya! Believe me, if H could actually HIT something with his compound, we'd have all kinds of shiit up. I allow it NOW, but when we move... it's going into a box.

We went with a tungsten carbide ring for my FI as well. The jewler said the same thing--that if it didn't shatter on impact, it can easily be shattered in an emergency situation. She warned against titanium because it would be harder to cut off in an emergency situation. The tungsten is also around 10x harder than 18k gold and extremely sratch resistant. We went to multiple jewlers to get information on the metals so we could be sure that one of them was not just trying to make the sale and lying to our faces.

H's doesn't have that exact ratio of deer antler-to-meteorite (he has more antler), but this is a basic idea (and we did get his from this Etsy shop)-

    I asked this too!

They just compress ring and the metal shatters. For example: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poM423pewRE" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poM423pewRE</a>

The metal should take all the impact but I suppose it's possible for some damage to the finger. Still better than no finger!

FI's ring is cobalt chrome. It's what he liked best when we were looking. He also won't be able to wear it on the job, so I got him one of these (at his request... IDC if he wears anything at work, but he wants to).

theyre rubber so they tear if their hands get caught. It actually looks nice, and they're like 12 dollars each. Also, every 10 that sell they donate one to a deployed soldier, which I thought was cool.

<div>I would definitely go with a tungsten wedding band. It's extremely scratch resistant, and since he's in the military, he'll be roughing up any ring on that's on his finger. My husband is getting a tungsten wedding band because he's asked to see some of our married friend's rings. Almost all of the non-tungsten wedding bands are pretty dinged up: gold, white gold, platinum, and titanium had visibly deep scratches. But we have 3 friends who have been married for awhile and have tungsten rings. They are still scratch free and shiny, though I'm not too sure how shiny they were to begin with. Funny thing is, all three of them got their wedding bands from <a href="http://www.tungstenworld.com/" rel="nofollow">Tungsten World</a>, without even being referred by one another. I thought that was a strange coincidence...</div>
