themes!

I was engaged at the Buckingham Fountain in Chicago and would love to incorporate that somehow into our reception but I cannot come up with anything. I would like to have some kind of something that people could throw in change as if they were making a wish, because that was a big part of how he proposed. and then the change we collected to donate to an animal shelter. Im open to ANYTHING! This is just all I have cam up with and could use some other ideas.

Re: themes!

  • What about have a tall glass vase with water in it for the people attending the reception to drop in the change.  What ever charity you select, put something inside the vase with water that represents that charity.

"Wishes do come true!" is a great theme for the wedding.  For the Table numbers, I would go to the fountain and take different pictures of the details of the fountain.

Something like this for favors: http://www.withthisfavor.com/content/wish-upon-star-bottle-stopper-wedding-favors-with-free-personalized-tag or even lottery scratch off tickets.
  • A tall glass vase is a great idea. Would you put one where they enter or one on each table? or even somewehere else?  We wanted to be able to tell our story with it as well. I dont know that there is enough details about the fountain for table numbers but I will definately mention it to him to see what he can help me come up with! I didnt realize we were spossed to have favors to give out! haha. This is all so new! Is this someting that you could just put on their dinner tables? How much should one spend per favor too? For a low budget wedding!
Thanks so much for your help! =)
  • good to know! I was trying to remember if other weddings i had went to had favors. We will probably leave the favors for last and make sure other things are paid for first. That is also a good idea to say your donating what money you would have spent on favors though! How do you fell about our wishing well donation idea? Im not sure if people would actually donate a whole lot and I dont want it to look cheesy!
  • I just dont know how many different  tables I could have using pictures of the fountain. I guess im not getting the idea you guys are suggesting. I know to have pictures of the fountain on each table but quite honestly it seems like the pictures would look the same to most of the people. What exactly are you guys thinking I should do?!!
  • thanks for all your help jcbsjr! I really do appreciate everything. We are paying for everything ourselves. Parents aren't really able help out much at all because of the economy. I feel like I can do most of what we talked about myself. As far as the escort cards and whatnot go. I think I will design the *STDs* =) as well as the escort cards and take them to a print shop, should save quite a bit that way!
  • Eshots/Epics= Engagement Shots/Pictures
    STDS = Save the Dates

I really like the idea of the fountain, but to be honest, I'm not sure that many people really carry loose change to a wedding.  I usually bring a small purse with just the essentials.

I think that either an engagement photo session or trash the dress session in front of the fountain is probably the best way to incorporate the theme without it being overkill.

  • A trash the dress (TTD) session is where you and your husband go out after the wedding day and take photos together in your wedding clothes.  You don't necessarily have to "trash your dress," but you wear it in a non-traditional environment.

  • Another thing I've heard of people having are wishing trees or wishing wells where guests write warm wishes on little slips of paper and attach them to a tree or place them in a well. This would go along with your wishing theme instead of doing the coins in the vases.

Also, check out vistaprint.com for STDs. If you register with them they will send you deals, like 100 post cards for free that you can either use their designs or upload one of your own (for a little extra) and use as your STDs. Lots of girls do this. They also have invitations and all sorts of stationary type things.

  • If you wanted to incorporate a fountain maybe a chocolate fountain? (mmmmmm chocolate)  Never seen one in person but I have heard good things.

Yes a TTD or RTD (rock the dress) shoot at the fountain would be fun.  (RTD is like TTD but with less trashing more just wearing it cool places).
  • Just an idea on the fountain.

You could place this on the table when people first come in.  Have cards that people could write down their wish on (replacing the guest sign book).  You can later put the cards into a keepsake book.  Then have a bowl full of pennies for people to drop into the large vase with water.  You could place clear marbles to look like bubbles or I'm not sure how much dry ice would cost.

Yes the pictures of the fountain details would have your table numbers on them.  I think the engagement photos around the fountain would be breath taking.

For centerpeices: Maybe have 3 different sized vases filled with water.  You could either color the water or place different colored marbles, or different stemmed flowers inside the vases.
  • I do like the idea of having pennies there for people to drop into the vase I just worry people may think it is corny. I am def going to consider it though because it is very special to both of us! corny or not!!! haha.

I talked to a friend who had mini replicas of her main cake for centerpieces. They only cost her $5 a piece b/c they made them themselves the week of and froze them. she says she didnt have problems with it sweating or anything but idk... The main cake was made at a major discount because it was mainly fake. There was just a little real for them to cut into and for the bridal party. Whats everyones ideas on this?!!

    thanks again =)
