In Response to Re: :( : Then we clearly are not reading the same thread.  I dont think anyone who smacks their dog on the nose everytime it does something bad is guilty of showing too much affection.
    Posted by Blueyed228
didnt see the nose smacking part.  still there's a discpline, training or excercise component missing. or teething- our dogs prefer ICE to chew on over toys.  You never know what may work.  If they don't stop chewing give them something ELSE they are allowed to chew on that they actually like.
  • Hitting a dog is NEVER an acceptable method of training. Positive reinforcement is key, and is much more effecive and humane. You sound extremely narrow-minded in your views about pet ownership.

You do realize there are metal crates out there you can try? Different methods of training? Animal behaviorists? If you were not prepared to spend time and MONEY on a dog you should never have gotten one in the first place. It's irresponsible and ignorant people like you that send perfectly wonderful pets to shelters because you were unprepared to be a pet owner.

You say you give him a nightly romp/walk? If he's so hyper that he can't relax you are clearly not exercising him enough. MULTIPLE daily walks and play time chasing balls or something would benefit him. Put your damn shoes somewhere he can't get them until you get him trained. Look up clicker training and doggie play groups.

Jeebus I really kind of hate you. I can't even imagine giving up a pet because it chewed up shoes. If you are so damn worried about money you shouldn't have a pet in the first place. Do some fucking research on dog training and ownership.

Finally, WTF did you expect people to write when you made this post? You are so fucking defensive about what people are saying yet all the information we have to go on is WHAT YOU WROTE. You do realize that if you just STFU no one would be here judging you, right? Ugh.
In Response to Re: :( : REALLLLLLYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At this point we all think you are an a-hole supreme so I will be sure to constantly nag you for update pics of your dog. Now.....since most of us here are seasoned dog owners, is there anything you would like to know in order to HELP you and the dog out?  Really Stacie, as pissed as I am right now over this dog business....Im still willing to help you out for the sake of the dog.  My first advice is this: 1) Get rid of your fvucking trainer but before you do, pop his asssss in the nose reallllyyyy good for all of us.  I firmly believe your dog needs a good trainer and I promise promise you that with A LOT of patience and A LOT of time spent with him, he WILL become a well behaved dog and be obedient, etc.  For the sake of you and the FI, do this! 2)  <strong>Go right NOW and buy "such and such dog Training for Dummies"</strong>  I have a yellow lab so the 1st book I bought was "Labrador Retrievers for Dummies"  That book was read from front to back and then referenced many times after that and it was very very helpful.  Good luck!!

  • It might be better to take the dog to a training session where she is the only dog. Too many dogs in a group class can be distracting for you and the dog and no one learns anything. Also, each trainer is going to have a different method. If that method doesn't work, find a new trainer. Also, if you don't practice obedience training everyday....it fades away. I have 3 dogs (two German Shepherds and one Dutch Shepherd), all rescues. All stubborn with their own issues. Each required a different method of training. No two dogs are alike. Now I have all three Canine Good Citizens certified and two are certified therapy dogs. It took a lot of work and time but it worked.

If you don't want her, I'll take her.

  • I'm not a pet owner because I don't have the money or time to properly care for one. I'm not sure why this concept is so hard to grasp for some people. It's like they forget about all the responsibility that goes into pet care once they see a cute little puppy.
  • Hell, my parents are in DFW. They could go get her, and we could bring her home next time we see them. We love strays. And Max would be a good teacher.

  • How can you just GIVE UP your dog like that?  I have a miniature schnauzer, Sadie who is almost 2.  She chewed the heel off my favorite pair of shoes so I reprimanded her and bought a new pair of them.  She did it again-I decided not to replace them.  When we were in an apartment and were house breaking her we had to pay ~$500 to have the carpet cleaned a few times before we moved out (stupid of us to get her when we were in an all-carpet apt. but I'm glad we did).  When she runs in the house covered in mud and jumps up on the couch/bed when she's not supposed to I get upset with her but never would the thought EVER cross my mind to give her up ESPECIALLY to a shelter where you have no idea what kind of person, if anyone, will adopt her.

Please, if you're dead set on giving your pup up, at least for your dog's sake, post ads first on craigslist, spread the word, maybe even leave a post on here in your local board and find a good home for her yourself.  Find a home with an owner who will actually appreciate her.
She ate her crate and its cruel to leave a dog outside in the Texas heat.
    Posted by stacie+luciano
I live in the most humid state with wicked, sweltering heat. Our animals roam freely and sleep in a roomy, clean pen at night. I know some people consider their pets to be their children, but simultaneously: animals =/= children. Animals <em>can</em> survive outside.

I would think if you and FI didn't have time to devote to this pet and felt it was being ignored or neglected, then giving it to a better home would be a good idea. But getting rid of a pet because your own mindlessness and because it was just being a dog is pretty lame.

If you value your shoes so much that they would come between yourself and a pet, you should either (1) take better care of your precious footwear by putting it away where it cannot be eaten by an animal or (2) don't by such expensive shoes? (3) don't get a pet to begin with

  • I didn't read the whole thread mostly because I'm seething mad and just want to say my part:

OP - WHY IS THE NAME OF SWEET JESUS WOULD YOU LEAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF SHOES SITTING OUT FOR THE DOG TO CHEW ON? It's called a closet. Our dog chewed the leg off an antique chair that my grandmother gave me. Did we get rid of the dog? NO. We called ourselves dumb for leaving valuables where the dog could get ahold of them. She has chewed up countless things, even as a grown dog. I still love her to pieces, regardless of what she does. You don't deserve to have a dog - please take her to the shelter so a family who will really love her can have her. Good luck to the poor dog if she has to stay with you. Wench. Your former SN is right- you are a piece of crap.
