I don't like bow ties at ALL - my fiance will be wearing a more suit-like look than tuxedo with a regular (real, not clip on from the rental place!) tie.

H and his best man wore straight (black) ties and black vests.  My best man wore a black bow tie and polka dot (small white dots on black) braces.  All three wore black tuxes.

I think each gentleman should choose his own neckware.  I liken it to pantyhose ... control top or not, reinforced toe or sheer ... each woman has her favorite, usually based on comfort.
  • I think only certain men can pull off a bow tie.  For my tastes, I prefer a euro tie.

  • I like bow ties, but not with suits/tuxes.  I prefer a straight tie with a suit or tux.
