Snarky Brides

people can be sooo rude

Some of the people that write in these boards simply astound me! Sometimes brides mention that they are young  and that suddenly gives people permission to tell them they should wait a couple years before they get married! This behavior shocks me. Why don't you should give the bride advice on what she asked for? Not on something that is obviously none of your business. Just because some people want time to live their life and "find themself", it is not how all people want to live their lives.I myself am a young bride and this behavior sickens me. I refuse to believe that just because I am younger than a lot of people who get married my marriage won't work out. Marriage is about love and commitment, and the decision to get married is between the two people making that commitment.

  • *yawn* insert party line here.

but seriously. don't want to read it? close the browser? Don't want the opinions of strangers? don't post on a public message forum.

Also. dude. this is the Snarky Brides board. What about that title made you think you were going to get sympathy?

This isnt about sympathy for me. This is me feeling bad for other poeople that have been targeted by people who feel the need to voice their opinion on things that arent their business. Maybe it would do you some good to actually read what i said.

What does that have to do with age? Young and older people alike get married for that same reason. You're missing the point if you think that's what people are commenting on regarding being too young.

Thats exactly what my point was...this is why people get married, marriage shouldn't be about the age. It is about wanting to make the commitment to that person.

And my point is, no shiiit that's why you (general) want to get married. But age does matter, whether you want it to or not. And people will point out why it matters, regardless of whether you like those reasons.
  • This one feels like deja vu. X1000

  • It's not about the young age, it's about maturity. Your hissy fit rant makes us think you should wait to get married. Not because you're young, but because you're immature. Get it, now?

  • If you are sickened by posts on an internet forum, I hate to think what actual horrific real life situations do to you.

Oh, and the whole "marriage is about love and committment' isn't always true. For some people it's about citizenship, or insurance benefits. welcome to reality.

And I forgot to add...I guess I don't see how what other people say is your business either (by your argument).  Just saying.

  • Sweetie, if someone posts a question here, she/he is, in effect making it the business of the people who populate this (or any other board, etc).

Ipso facto...don't ask if you aren't prepared for an answer you don't want to hear.
  • If you truly feel that you are ready to be married at your age and that people just need to STFU and mind their own business, why do you feel the need to prove this point on a message board?
  • Marriage just isn't about being able to say I am ready to make a committment, it's actually being able to have the maturity to sustain that, through all the problems that will happen in any marriage.  If you come to a public forum, telling women you don't know, how rude they are because they are honest, throwing a hissy fit, then you are not mature.  You are still a young person who is still self-centered (which is normal for the young) that the first problem you have in your marriage will result in you thinking it's all about you and how can he fix it, make it right, etc.

I know because I've been there, bought the t-shirt, lived that life.  When the older people in your life, online and in real life, tell you that it would be SMART to wait, it's not because they are mean, don't know anything, being rude, none of their business, nosiness.  It's because they are older, wiser, and have MORE experience than you.  If you are truly in love, truly want to be together, want to make the commitment of marriage, then you can truly wait a few more years.  Grow and mature a little more.  Those extra few years may mean the difference in a marriage that lasts 60 years (my grandparents) or a divorce because you were too immature to wait.
  • Just ignore those who are snarky and judgemental. Most of them are just looking for arguments because they are hiding behind their computer screens. And when people can't share their opinion in a respectful way, it does make you question their personal happiness.

Don't post anything that could be grossly misinterpreted or sound slightly contrary to etiquette, and you'll be fine.

  • Most of the time people say things like that to brides who point out their ages and happen to be young, are because their posts are self-centered, whiny, or immature.  It's not always just about the age.  It's the maturity level of the person posting.  If you make a post just to whine about getting honest opinions from strangers over the internet, it does not make you seem mature.  Just incapable of handling criticism or other peoples' opinions.

Also when you post on a public forum?  Expect people to be bluntly honest.  They aren't trying to be mean, but to give their honest opinion.  Some people feel strongly about waiting until you're older for marriage if you get engaged young.  Or even just waiting to get engaged until you're a little older.

Posting things like this does not make it better for young brides on here (like myself and some others I've seen), since it makes all of us look whiny and immature.  Just saying.

  • This sounds like a post my 19 year old niece would make.  When you ask for advice on a public forum, you're given it - whether you like it or not.  And yes, as a lurker, 99% of the age comments come after an OP acts like the first graders I teach.

Because she came in here on her high horse to scold us about minding our own business.. you know.. the business she put out here in the first place.
  • i myself am a young bride but that being said i know better than to state my age or how long fi and i have been together. nobody really needs to know that unless it relates to my post (which it never has). i agree that you shouldn't post that info on here and not expect some kind of opinion to be stated. besides that even if people state their opinion and you don't like it, just ignore it. it's not a big deal.
