something different than a wedding cake

I would rather not have a wedding cake.  Anyone have any interesting ideas or seen something different?

I plan on having cupcakes and a cake. the cake will be small two tiers designed to look like a chess board with king and queen pieces made of sugar. it will be served to wedding party and the immediate family and we'll save the top tier for anniversary. cupcakes will be for all the other guests. about idea could be chocolate covered strawberries. or having a dessert bar with some of your favorite treats.

those are good ideas.  my cousin just recently got married and had a chocolate fountain, which was a nice touch.  I like your idea of having cuocakes.  Thanks for the suggestions!Smile

I don't like cake, so we are have a dessert bar: mini lemon tartes, créme brulée, and peach sorbet.

Can you serve your guests you and your FI's favorite dessert(s) instead of wedding cake?  Pie, creme brulee, brownies, cookies, ice cream, etc.?  That could be something fun, meaningful/personal, and different!

I know one of the girls on my local board is having pies instead of cake.

I most likely won't have cake at my wedding either, not because I hate it- but something different is always nice. Thinking of having assorted pastries, desserts-something like that.

I 100% agree about the mini-dessert bar. We were just at wedding that did this (amazing desserts by a fantastic Seattle bakery) and it was so yummy. FI and I didn't want a traditional cake either, and the cupcake trend seems overdone, so we found a baker here that makes mini-cheesecakes. They taste divine and are really original.    Keep thinking outside the box, you'll come up with something!

We are having a cup-cake tower with a little cake on top to cut. (Yes, we know that we are suppose to freeze the top layer but have decided to opt out of that)

Friends of our did a cookie tower.   Her mom stacked four cake plates and placed tons of different flavored cookies on each of the cake plates.  On the top plate she placed an old fashioned cake topper that had been used in her wedding.

Cheesecake bites, cake balls, sweet shots.

For our wedding, we have a couple of different kinds of mousse and pudding in shot-glass-size cups that will be passed around later in the evening.

Go with cheesecake!! I love cheesecake, or if you want to completely skip cutting the cake, or something of that manor, have a candy buffet.

We're also doing a dessert bar (parfaits, brownies and something else) then we're having cupcakes in little boxes for guests to take home as favors. We were at a wedding last year where they cut the cake and put it in boxes to take home - it was great because if you left early you didn't miss dessert plus FI and I ate ours at about 1am after the drive home, it was delicious!
