Hors d'oeurves for reception?

My fiancee & I are paying for our wedding ourselves....so we don't have a huge budget for the reception. We are planning the wedding ceremony for the early afternoon (1-ish) and then have light hors d'oeuvres for the reception. Is this acceptable? What sorts of hors d'oeuvres would be good to serve....stuff that's finger food style.....Thanks!!

Re: Hors d'oeurves for reception?

  • I agree with Retread.  I wouldn't start the ceremony before 1:30 or 2 if you don't want to serve enough food to constitute a meal.  If your ceremony starts at 2 and reception immediately follows and ends by 5:30 or 6 you can have just a cake and punch reception or hors d'oeuvres reception with whatever sounds appealing to you.  I'd make sure to have some veggie trays and cheese/crackers at least.

  • Ditto the other ladies

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
