Cupcakes w/separate cake for bride/groom?

We're having cupcakes in lieu of an actual wedding cake. Do we still need to have a small cake for the bride & groom to cut into? Would it look silly if we each had a cupcake? or shared a cupcake? Thanks!

Some people get a 6 inch cake. I have a coworker whose wife is a cupcake baker and they just cut into a regular cupcake. Whatever you'd like.

A girl on my local did one huge cupcake at the top of her cupcake stand and that is what they cut into.

We are doing cupcakes with a small cake for cutting.

We are also doing cupcakes with one small 6" cake to cut into. We would've just done a cupcake too, but we wanted to use a cake topper

We are doing cupcakes with a small cake to cut; however, I don't see the problem with using a cupcake for the 'cake cutting' it would be cute!
