2:00 pm reception food help!

I am planning a second wedding for both my fiance and myself.  We cannot find a caterer to work it.  So, the food is up to me!  Since the wedding is at 1:30, we plan on people eating between 2 adn 2:30.  We both agree finger foods are best. So we came up with these ideas.
Mini croissant ham and turkey sandwiches
italian meat and cheese pinwheels,
fiesta dip
hummus and tamenade with crudets
veggie tray
deviled eggs (make my son happy lol)
cheese chunk tray
cheese balls
pretzels, chips
cupcakes and cookies.

This is for approximately 60 to 75 people.  Do you think this fits the bill for an October afternoon???
Thanks!

  • Those sound delicious. I would just make sure on your invitation you designate it as an "hors de voures reception to follow"  or something along that lines just in case people are traveling a bit for the wedding to ensure that they do eat something beforehand. It's just nice to know that even at a non-meal time, it is a non-meal reception.
  • Sounds good!  Some fruit (a fruit tray or grapes/apple slices with caramel or a cream-cheese-pumpkin dip) would be nice.

If you wanted you could add/substitute in a hot dip (like spinach artichoke), meatballs or cocktail sausages in sauce to have some warm offerings -- both can be kept in and served from slow cookers (crock pots).

What are you having for drinks?  Hot apple cider and/or hot chocolate (crock pots, again) would be fabulous for fall.
  • We planned on water, coffee, soda.  But now that you say cider or hot chocolate I like it!!  Thanks!  We were talking about meatballs too.  We have 60 people being invited but expect only 50.  Wow, I really like cider idea! LOL

Hot cider recipe from our wedding 16 years ago

    1 gallon cider
    3 2-inch cinnamon sticks
    5 whole allspice
    16 whole cloves
    1 whole nutmeg
    1 cup light brown sugar

place spices and sugar in basket of party size percolator and brew.  You can also tie the spices in cheesecloth and make this in a large pot on the stove.  We serve  this at our family Christmas get together now too.  Hope it helps.

Good luck with your wedding.  Your food sounds great.

We were originally planning a fall (2012) wedding, and had to push it back until spring.  It's ridiculous, but one of the things I miss the most from the fall plans is the hot cider!  Just can't seem to get it to fit into a late April / early May wedding.  Tongue out
  • That sounds delicious!

  • It was awesome and it is cold here this morning and I want some!!  I am less than thrilled that mediocre cider is 6 bucks a gallon this year.  I am a bit of a cider snob.
