how many courses are you having?

we're wondering if we should do 3 or 4 courses. i don't want people to leave hungry but at the same we're wondering if the 4th course is necessary.

we're doing some finger foods for cocktail hour. then for first course we're going to do salad, second course we were thinking a hot appetizer small pasta or phyllo bake, then mains which will be steak and another meat, and cake for dessert.

We'll have passed hors d'oeurves during cocktail hour, followed by soup/some sort of appetizer course (yet to be determined), salad, and main course.  Cake and late night snack to follow!

We're doingpassed hors d'oeurves during cocktail hour. The main meal will be a salad, intermezzo, main course and cake. Along with the plated cake we will have a small dessert table (4 options) and late night snacks.

It really all depends on what you serve and if you're planning on having an open bar-if you are, then you'd probably want to so your guests don't get too tipsy, lol. From what you said, I don't think a 4th course would be absolutely necessary-but if your budget allows it, go for it.

I don't think a 4th course is necessary.  Personally I never like it when I feel like dinner at a wedding takes forever.  I would generally prefer to have 1 less course and get on with the dancing!

We did 3, not including cake. Passed hors d'oeuvres for cocktail hour, then salad, soup, main, and cake later on.

We are having three courses, but we will be having LOTS of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres, baked brie, fruit, cheese and veggies on a buffet during cocktail hour.  I don't want to them to be so full from the food that they can't dance and have fun later in the evening... or equally bad, be too full to eat the very expensive wedding cake I bought!

I think 3 courses would be fine. We are having probably 2 pass hors d'oeurves before dinner, then dinner will be salad, meat (probably pork and chicken), potatoes and veggies, then cake for dessert.

Our venue does offer late night snacks, but we'll have to see if we can fit that into a budget. If we did it would be a cheap one, maybe like popcorn.

We are doing 6 hor d'oeuves during cocktail hour.

    We are then offering a 3-course meal--salad, entree w/2 sides, & small dessert (1 chocolate covered strawberry/person) w/coffee.

We will have cake later for the main dessert.

I know that it is formal to serve a pasta dish as a separate course from meat...but personally, I would rather have the two served together because I like to blend my food.  haha  As I just said, my entree with come with 2 sides.

Am I understanding correctly that you're thinking of serving a pure meat course and a pure pasta or phyllo course?  :)

We had a cheese and fruit display and 8 butler passed hors d'ouevres at cocktail hour, followed by salad at the reception, and then we had stations. So we technically didn't have courses. We had 4 different stations, a carving station, a pasta station, a summer grill station, and a Tuscan station. More than enough food and a bunch of variety.
