BOUT TO GO POSTAL ON FMIL -definite rant....

ugh, yea....

So she calls me and asks if her on again off again BF(EQUIPPED WITH COWBOY HANDLEBAR MUSTACHE) can escort her and get a tux??? WHATTTT? WTF??? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

THEN - SHE BITCHED AT ME FOR CANCELLING THE BAR SNACKS BC I CANT AFFORD IT.  HER WORDS EXACTLY "You mean to tell me there will be not hor'derves???" AHHHHHHH. Why again do ppl need to eat 30 mins before they eat dinner?? This is not a Noon wedding with a 2 hr Catholic service!!! Its less than 30 mins and its at 430pm with the reception directly following!

THEN- she explained her vast dissapointment with not putting maps with directions in the invitations. TELL ME, HOW FRICKING HARD IS IT TO DRIVE STRAIGHT DOWN REYNOLDS TO CENTRAL, TURN RIGHT AND THEN LEFT AT THE PARK???? IM CONFUSED??? BC I DINT THINK THAT WAS REMOTELY DIFFICULT...
So I say, well lots of ppl have computers now and if they have a problem finding anything, maybe they can use GPS or mapquest it?

AHHHHHHHH. She is driving effing nuts. SO SORRY. BUT IM ABOUT TO LOSE IT IF I GET ONE MORE DUMBASS PHONE CALL.

Put the phone down and slowly walk away.  If it rings...do NOT answer it. Go and make yourself a stiff drink. Enjoy it slowly. Enjoy some idle chit-chat with your man tonight, then tell him that he will now deal with all future phone calls from his mother. Smile sweetly. Go have another drink.

On a more serious note...sorry your dealing with her like this. Just hold your ground on what you guys want.  Neither directions nor pre-dinner snacks are required!  Try to keep in mind that in a year from now...none of this will matter.  Makes it a little easier to let it go.  Good luck!  Hugs!!!

Totally agree with Nyrek.  Don't let her get to you, this is your day, not hers!  My motto is Stupid and Cheerful when I deal with people I'm having issues with.

    Good luck!

It'll be ok.  Tell her if she wants the bar snacks, she is more than wlecome to pay for them herself :)

There's nothing you can change now.....but it is still super frustrating!!!

We had two of the same issues: no hor d'ouevres (4:30 wedding with reception after) I know some people are going to be mad....well they are just dumb.   We also didn't put directions into our invites.  I figure most people have computer access and/or a GPS.  If not they should call us or one of our mothers.  They all have phones.  I would be more than happy to mail someone directions and a map if they called.

When FMILs number shows up on my caller ID these days I get tense....mostly b/c it is about people changing their RSVP.

Just take a moment and think....."I am getting married two weeks from Saturday!!!!" and enjoy that moment of bliss!

Wow my guests are driving across town, a good chunk are from OOT, and I didn't even give them directions.  I just thought, "They're all adults.  They have the internets, they can figure it out."

Appetizers aren't required.  Nice to have while waiting to get thru toasts, etc... But definitely *NOT* required.

I agree with Nyrek. Stop answering the phone.  Smile sweetly to FI and tell him to deal with his mother.  At this point, (2 weeks before! yay you!) you can't change anything.  Everything is finalized.  You've paid the vendors.  FMIL will get over it.  And if she doesn't... Tough cookies.  Tell her to pony up the extra cash for more stamps to send out directions, and appetizers. She'll shut up.

That is so frustrating! Mine is actually at my house this weekend and driving me bonkers too! Like PP said take a deep breath, pour a drink (the adult kind), and smile knowing you're marrying the man of your dreams! I have never cared at all about appetizers or maps and I don't think anyone else will either. BTW mine just yelled at me about my shoes for the wedding! Last time I checked they were going on my feet not hers, but I just smiled and said "well there will be alot of things you may not understand or care for but that's the beauty of it being Josh and I's wedding". Done and done
