Holiday Inn French Quarter

Does anyone have any wedding experiences here?  Ironically enough it was the first place me and fiance saw and both hated it.. Now months later after crunching some serious numbers, I'm thinking of going back with some fresh eyes.  The pricing is pretty great and the shape of the ballroom beats the Hilton Toledo.  I always preferred the big open rooms to the longer, narrower ones.  Just curious if anyone had some input.

Starting to lose my mind haha.  My mom is excited that I'm going to look again because that was her suggestion from the start.

I went to a wedding there back in September.  It was very nice and the bride and groom had a lot of positive things to say about their experience.

My bridal shower is also there on Sunday!  They have been very easy to work with.

I went to a wedding there but it was not in the ballroom it was in the pool area. We had fun.

One of the issues was the fact that it doesn't seem very private at all.  You walk out of the ballroom and there are people swimming.  That turned me off.  The other issue is more just me being nit-picky.  I guess I just wanted something that looked cooler, like the inside of Central Park West.  I loved everything about the inside of that place.  I just didn't like that the bridal suite was so small, there was no outdoor patio of any kind and it was on the very top of my budget, which I'm realizing I overestimated what I could afford for the reception.  It just looks very hotel-y.. I know how silly that sounds haha.  We have a 100 year old house with the worst, tiniest kitchen you've ever seen haha, so I'm starting to realize having money left to redo the kitchen after the wedding is more important than a wedding hall that wows me.

Keep in mind though, I saw the ballroom set up for a meeting, so maybe it would look completely different dressed up for a wedding.  I'm playing phone tag with Tawnya, so I'm hoping to see it all jazzed up.  I also used to work at the Frickers next door a couple of years ago and don't have fond memories haha.

Oh!  I got a few more responses since I had this window open heh.  That makes me kinda excited.  Jookie, that would be awesome if you could let me know how it was!  I'll be off on the 2nd too, hopefully I can see it in the morning so I can get a better idea of it set up.

Who knew wedding planning could be so stressful haha.. You know aside from everyone I've ever known who has been married telling me it is haha.

I was thinking about checking out the french quarter too! Do you remember the prices they gave you?!

They give you all the pricing there :) I also have bar upgrade pricing if you're interested.  The nicest part about it is the tax and gratuity is already included in the per person price, which makes it one of the least expensive places I've seen.  They include a lot too like your hotel room, a return stay on your anniversary, a late night snack plate, and brunch for you and your parents the day after.

Mine is 55 a plate for a served meal, but it includes a cake from wixy, a premium bar, a hotel suite, champagne toat for everyone and champagne ,snack, and chocolate covered strawberries in our room. It also includes 3 passed or stationed appetizers(they are goood!) instead of just fruit and veggies. oh and it includes valet parking i forgot!

My fiance's only rule was no Downtown Toledo.  :(  Parking is included there though?  I was under the impression when I spoke to Heather that parking was only included for the bride and groom.

DON'T do the Crowne Plaza...read their reviews on Tripadvisor....they don't have air conditioning....another bride posted here last year that it was 90 degrees in their ballroom, the cake fell over (melted) and all her guests left by 9pm due to the heat.

We will be at a wedding there on July 2nd too.  We know that the bride is having decorations so you may be able to see the set up if you go a few hours before the reception.

But I have heard great things about that place.   Great food, great service and great location.

I, too, remember this bride.  She's not the only person that I have heard complain about this venue.  I would definitely look into this one a little more than the other before committing to it.

I take the negativity with a grain of salt though.  One person with a terrible experience is much more likely to tell everyone about it than several people with great experiences.

I used Gladieux Meadows, and that's about the same price I paid after Gratuity & Tax.  I had to book a separate hotel room for me and DH and his family because obviously it wasn't inside a hotel.  There was no sunday brunch, or gift opening, or dressing room for the bridesmaids.

This place seems like a steal.

I dont know who Heather is! I have worked with Stacey and Terri(they are the main people) but no Heather. They DO have air conditioning What hotel doesnt? Apparently that "bride" who posted that was an EX-employee. I have had two friends who got married there recently and they both raved about the Crowne. And FYI thats where the boyz 2 men guy got married a few years back. They always get great reviews on their food too. Valet parking was included for me. I havent had any problems. My wedding is in August so I will be able to tell you then for sure. But they are the only vendor I have that I am not worried about.

Read the tripadvisor reviews.  There are multiple complaints about the HVAC system from this year and last year.  Obviously it's a recurring problem.

I'm not sure why you assume that the "bride" was an ex-employee.  Do you think all of the trip advisor reviews were ex-employees too?  Isn't it possible that someone just really had a terrible experience here?  C'mon.  I don't think any of us actually believe that our venue is perfect and that every bride has had an A+ experience before us.

I cannot speak for the ballroom as I have never seen it.  However, there are multiple reviews about dirty, run down rooms.  I can only assume that the ballroom and kitchen receive the same care.  That would just make me a little nervous, that's all.  I'm not saying run for the hills, I just don't want you to be blindsided on your wedding day.

I went to a wedding at the Crowne Plaza in December of 2009.  The food was great, service excellent, and the ballroom looked very nice. The temperature in the room was fine.

And whatttttt, a singer from Boyz II Men was married in Toledo? Why? How come I don't know this?? :(

My sister's guy went to a wedding at Crowne a few years ago and raved about it, but my fiance doesn't want to be downtown and I was more than a little disappointed when they told me my out of town guests would have to pay for parking.  I did hear the food was excellent and the ballroom was beautiful though.  I know there are a lot of bad reviews of the place but there have been happy brides too.  Unfortunately people are more likely to take the time to review things when they're unhappy than when they're happy.

And I hope it wasn't Wanya that got married there, I always thought I would marry him when I was little haha.

I was MOH in a wedding at the Crowne Plaza last summer. Food wasn't great, ballroom was okay. We didn't pay for parking because the bride negotiated that into her price. The rooms were pricey too. Also, they missed her cocktail hour because they did not open the bar when they were supposed to! I think the minimum you have to spend there is 12,000. They definitely had air conditioning, though.

Our 2nd pick was Crowne Plaza.  If we wouldn't have gotten MB, we would have def gone there.  We had to live there for two weeks after a fire and had nothing but an awesome experience.  Our room was fabulous.  The food wasn't the best ever, but it was fine.  The service was absolutely top knotch!!  And the wedding planner there was fun.  Just to give my thougths.....

Also, yes, we had valet parking included in our package price so our guests wouldn't have to pay.

I was told by someone at the crown that an ex employee was posting bad reviews and it all the same story. I dont really care what anyone says, I have been down there several times unexpectedly and seen their crisp clean rooms, and ballroom. We had 3 different tastings and the food was good. I havent had any problems. They AC was not a problem. My SIL had a graduation party 2 years ago and alot of people stayed at the crowne and had no problems there either. I will tell you I have had SEVERAL problems with one vendor whom I will not name or even tell you what they do and that particular vendor has only positive reviews on here. So you cant believe everything you hear. It was shawn from boys 2 men.

Is there a reason you're not sharing?  I would want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly before I decided on a vendor and I'm sure other knotties would agree.

The reason is because my wedding is not until August. I know vendors post on here and some just read it. I would hate to upset a vendor by putting them on blast when their job is not fully done. Plus in addition to that I would like to give them a chance to redeem themselves. Trust me when it is done I will do a full review because I do believe they are helpful.

Here's a new review on them from Hotels.com.....damn, those ex-employees are slandering the Crowne all over the place....HA!!

I read the reviews prior to booking but being the only 3.5 star (the highest rated hotel in Toledo) and needing a place close to 5/3 Baseball Field I took my chances. It turned out the reviews about the air conditioning were true, upon check in around 2pm I set the A/C to 60 degrees, to be safe, and at check out the next day the temp was still around 72. Our room was clean and comfortable however the bathroom sink drain leaked, well it actually poured. The pipe had a considerably large hole that wasn't noticed unitil morning when there was water all over the bathroom floor. We informed the staff, they didn't seem to concerned, and we proceeded to check out - my boyfriend and I were over Toledo and just wanted to get home. Also, the hotel has posted quiet hours of 10pm to 10am.

Ok so you dont need to be snippy! I am a real bride and it is my venue so I am going to defend it. Apparently you have some sort of vendetta against the crowne. And since you seem  to know EVERY person who has writtten a bad review against them personally  you really do know best right?

At the risk of being obnoxious planning4neice, I started this thread for advice on my potential venue.  Another bride was kind enough to look into the pricing and realized her package at her venue was in the same price range and made a wonderfully nice suggestion.  You made your point about how you feel about Crowne, some agreed, some disagreed.  I'd appreciate it if you didn't make my thread about bashing a venue that many people have had great experiences with, someone I know personally included.  It's not helpful and is becoming downright rude.  If these women were able to find this message board, I'd say they're smart enough to look up these reviews on their own.

Oh and CoCo'sMommy, I was told Heather was the newest planner.  Supposedly she left the Toledo Hilton.  She's the one I spoke with when I first looked into Crowne.  She seemed incredibly nice.  I bet she would have been a blast to work with (more so than the one I ended up dealing with at the Hilton before they officially replaced Heather with someone different.)
