Favors

Need some help

For my favors, I was planning on doubling the favor as escort/place cards. My idea was to get the mini champagne bottle (splits) and hang an ivory luggage tag, like the kind with a metal grommet to the neck, I would use a ribbon that is either dark teal, navy blue or tiffny blue, (my wedding colors) from the neck of the bottle. one side of the tag would have the persons name on it for the place card aspect and the other side of the tag would have a thank you type inscription.
I planned on utilizing 10 different height cake stands my mom and I have combined, I was going to set the cake stands up on a table, drap a table cloth over so you just get the different height effects and each stand would be a different table. In the middle of the cake stnad would be a tall crystal studded number in the three blue's and surrounding the number would be all the bottles of the guests who were seated at the table. So every stand is a different table.

These are my questions:

Is this tacky?
Will guests think the champagne is for the toast and not a favor?
is it bad etiquette to not have seperate place cards?

I was thinking of using an inscription for the thank you part of the tags, along the lines of "You have toasted to us, now toast yourselves and the love in your life. Thank you for celebrating with us blah blah blah." I have no idea and that is a really rough idea. Any suggestions on wording?

Lastly, anybody know a great avenue to purchase splits in bulk, I'm looking for about 130?

  • Until you mentioned it, it didn't occur to me that guests might think that the champagne is for the toast.  But now that you said that, I can see some people thinking that.  If it weren't chilled, I personally would probably assume it's for later, because no one drinks champagne warm, right?

I think the centerpiece idea sounds fine.  I would personally skip the luggage tag, though.  It won't be missed, and tying a ribbon with a favor tag would be much cheaper and easier.
  • How will guests find their bottle?   I mean, the point of a placecard table or seating chart is for guests to quickly find their seat or table.   What you have described sounds really cool, but guests will be standing around looking for their table, instead of finding a card in an alphabetical list or referencing a chart.

I like the idea of the bottles, and the mutli-tiered stands are cool, but maybe arange the bottles alphabetically by recipient, and add the table number to the card so they know what table they are seated at.

  • Your idea sounds fine. I am doing this as well, doubling escort cards as favors (still in the rough draft phases too).

I am planning on doing mini gift boxes with some kind of edible treat inside. Then having a tag with the guests names and table number on one side, a thank you on the other. I would also have a sign telling guests to take a box and find their seat. I wanted to have the boxes at each place setting but wanted it to have the persons name on it... plus then I'd have to spend extra money on escort cards.
