What is the average cost of wedding flowers?

I feel like I'm not doing anything really over the top, but my initial proposal came out to be $8,000.  I'm going to try and scale it down a few Gs, but I'm just curious as to whether or not this is an absurd amount?

How much are yall paying? (If you don't mind me asking)

  • I'm getting my bouquet, 4 BM bouquets, 7 boutineers, 4 corsages, a toss bouquet, 2 ceremony arrangements and one very large arrangement for our escort table from my florist for $1650. I'm also spending about $1000 on reception flowers from Fifty Flowers.

This is typically relative to area.  Get quotes from other florists to compare or research the avg. cost for your area.  This does sound on the higher end for flowers, but you may be paying for experience, uniquness and creativity that you may not find elsewhere.  Best of luck
  • That sounds quite high so I would get some other quotes just to see if there is any difference.  However, like PP said, price depends on your area and what you are asking for.

  • Gosh!  How did you get all these things for such a low price?  I looked at a few florists and they aren't too much lower.  I'll have to look inot this some more.
  • Normally, you spend around 10% of your overall budget for flowers.  Flowers were pretty important to me but I still managed to spend less than $2500 (or around 8% of my budget). Still, I will admit that I could have easily spent twice that.

Unless you are just going completely over the top, you can probably spend less.  If you are factoring in rentals, lighting or linens, that will of course increase the total cost.
  • I spent about 4500 on flowers but I love them and flowers were very important to me.

I was quoted at 617.76 with set up and delivery.
  • I live in the NJ/NYC area and just received a flower proposal for $6600, which is much cheaper than other florists in my area b/c it's connected to a wholesale warehouse.  Also, I didn't go over-the-top w/ my flowers. Therefore, $8000 seems reasonable.
  • May I ask what sites you used to buy your flowers wholesale?
    Thank you

  • HI, I have been looking for wholesale flowers and most places require a membership. What I have found, are some wonderfully inexpensive ones at Sams Club of all places. They had good reviews also. I am planning to meet with three Baltimore-area florists in January, so I can decide based on design elements/personality/compatibility as well as price quotes who we will hire.

The first of these florists just sent me a price list to help me estimate and know what their starting rates are.  These three florists are all
high-end, designer-style, boutique florists who do artistic arrangements - not FTD cookie-cutter work.

So, I provide her starting prices and my estimates of what we want, based on my own experience of a year + as a floral design assistant in Washington D.C.

    Bridal Bouquet
florist rate states - bouquets start
    at $150
I estimate mine will be $300.00

    Corsages & Posies
    florist rate states -
    starting at $15
I estimate our four corsages will be
    $25 x 4 = 100.00

    Boutonnieres
    florist rate
    starting at $15
    I estimate ours at $25 x 4 = 100.00

    Pew End Décor
    florist rate starting at $20
    I estimate ours at $50 x 6 = 300.00

    Ceremony Arrangements
    florist rate starting at $150

We have four of these in mind, as listed below,
    with my price estimates:

    venue gate "WELCOME SWAG"                              $50
    venue FIREPLACE WREATH                                   $130
WISTERIA / Flowers VINES FOR PERGOLA      $70
BRIDE & GROOM CHAIR FLOWERS                     $100
    ---------------------------------------------------------
     subtotal of the four:                                                350.00

    RECEPTION FLOWERS

    Centerpieces

    -Low
    hers are priced
    starting at $95
    I estimate ours will be $95.00   x 10        950.00

    -Tall
    hers are priced
    starting at $150
    I estimate ours will be $200.00 x 10        2000.00

    All floral above:   4,100.00

    Delivery & Set-Up
    starting at $275
(I think ours will be that price- $275.00)

    Grand Total estimate: $4,375.00

Does not include lighting elements listed below
which I will get at save-on-crafts website and assemble myself:

     floating LED lily pads -$27.00

blue fairylights for walkway - $150.00

    LED blue light/gold branch/glass vases for windows - $265.00

    4,325 + 450.00 = all floral/lighting elements

    $4,825.00

  • Eh.  Just checked my math.  I think it will be: $4825.00.  Opps.
(did not use a calculator - that figures, eh?)

  • That does sound a bit high, but some of these posts I can't believe how low they are...
My initial quote was $4,300 for everything, but we are scaling back.

    Bride bouquet: $165
    Wedding party bouquet: $95/each
    Grooms bout: $15
    Groomsmen: $10/each
Flower girls: $35/each (we have three)
    Centerpieces: $15-85/each
By far our most expensive flowers were for the ceremony decor...
We are going super minimal, just decorating a little on the gazebo and some petals on the aisle, and the floral still comes to $1400 for the ceremony.

Like I said, we are cutting quite a bit out, but it will still probably come to a little over $3,000.

$8,000 does seem high, but depending on your guest count might not be crazy.  To save money some of the things we are cutting out are: grandmothers, my mothers flowers (she apparently hates corsages), and an aisle runner.
  • Still visiting florists to price flowers and other decor elements out....by doing DIY it seems we would spend about $4,500 vs $7,000 for the same effect/items.

Have to make my art degree pay off somehow! LOL
