Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

iPod wedding

So we are thinking of doing an iPod wedding instead of a dj. We have a friend of the family that will do it for $250 for a dj, but we were thinking that speaker rental will still be cheaper. What all do we need besides the iPod to do this, we have already asked my brother to announce the transitions. So we are thinking just a microphone and speakers.

Re: iPod wedding

  • We went to a smaller wedding where there was just an ipod, and it was horrible! We danced once or twice and left early. They used the existing speakers that were in the ceiling and it was super quiet and crackly. A DJ is there to keep the party going. Saving money on shoes or decor is great, but entertainment isn't a place you should skimp on.
  • If you just want dinner music, ipod is great. One thing that a DJ can do that you can't do as easy with an ipod is change up the music being played based on what seems to draw people out to the dance floor. Our DJ is basically acting as our event coordinator at the reception to make sure all the things we want are done & keeping things on schedule.
