How NOT to invite people to your wedding

Ok, so we all use Facebook. Some of us use it to announce what we ate for lunch, and we all have the overly-passionate political friend. J and I have an acquaintance who posted the following 'status' about her recent engagement:

"It is official, just put our venue deposit down at (XYZ location). I need addresses so I can send out invitations. Please send me or FI a message through FB. The date is X-Y-Z. Details will be in the invitation."

::headdesk::

We aren't really close with this person or their FI, but see them both oat least 3 times a month. They have over 1,000 facebook friends. I can't even fathom how many people will send their address to them, but this is a popular venue and I know that it only holds between 150-200 people. I can only imagine what a train wreck this is going to turn into. smh.

  • I love it, I love it, I love it.
  • Wow, that's so tacky... I had another friend who got engaged, and the next day on FB, she sent out msgs to ppl saying to send her their address if they wanted a STD. Not as bad, but still kinda tacky if ya ask me...
  • Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow.

    I definitely used facebook to track down addresses of people we wanted to invite, but can you imagine the responses she'd get?  That's like posting a flyer in your local grocery store inviting the town over for free food!

  • That is crazy. I only asked maybe 3 people their addresses through FB. I can't imagine asking all my FB friends.

  • Awesome. I've been sending out PM's asking for addresses all morning, I can only imagine how many I'd get if I sent out a blanket status update... and half the people on my list, FI doesn't like, we have one creepy ass mutual guy who we had in our eq2 guild and he'd be the first to expect an invite if we did it that way because he doesn't KNOW he's creepy.
