How far in advance for rehearsal dinner invitations?

How far in advance should rehearsal dinner invitations be distributed? It'll probably be by e-mail or phone calls, nothing printed.

Our wedding is on a holiday Monday. Our rehearsal (full nuptial Mass with only one catholic bridal party member) is 4pm the Saturday before. Our rehearsal dinner is 6pm after the rehearsal. The "must-invites" for the rehearsal dinner total 22 out of the 30 seats the room holds. Those 22 people have already been given a kind of "heads-up"/"save-the-date" about the rehearsal and dinner.

It's just the other 8 possible people, likely future in-laws from out-of-town, where I need to develop a timeline for selecting them, inviting them, and gathering Rsvps. The venue's headcount deadline is like 3 days before, so it's not really a factor.

We sent ours out a few weeks before the wedding.  Basically, after we received all our RSVPs back we issued invites for those invited to the RD.  So probably about 3 weeks out.  People will already have travel plans by then, so it should be pretty clear cut as to if they will be able to make it or not.

I would do it close to the date (after travel plans are made) like the pp said

    --OR--

far enough in advance that travel plans aren't made yet, and can then be made with your RD in mind
